“Uzbekistan is one of the most prosperous countries in the region”
On the eve of the 25th anniversary of the state independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Jahon I.A. correspondent in Moscow talked with the deputy of the State Duma, the president of the All-Russian Federation of School Sport Irina Rodnina. Three-time Olympic champion, ten-time world champion in figure skating has shared her views on the achievements of our country in the development and popularization of physical culture and sport among young people.
– Uzbekistan is a socially-oriented state. Over the past few years the country paid great attention to education of physically healthy and intellectually rich young generation who possess modern knowledge and professions. Through this deliberate policy of Uzbekistan in a relatively short period of time it became one of the most prosperous countries in the region.
As in many democratic states, Uzbekistan’s Constitution serves primarily as a solid legal foundation that provides a comprehensive youth development. Constitution provisions have become the basis for making a number of legislative acts and state programs in this sphere. A declaration of 2016 in the republic as Year of a healthy mother and child, of course, is another important step towards the formation of a healthy generation.
It is a deep sense of respect and the fact that the purpose of popularization of healthy lifestyle leadership of Uzbekistan actively promoted sports activities and youth involvement in it. As part of this large-scale measures the Children’s Sports Development Fund has been established in the country, which is an important factor of improvement of the gene pool of the nation.
Along with this, in the country set up a three-stage continuous sports system, which includes such sports as “Umid Nihollari”, “Barkamol Avlod”, “Universiada”, which caused great interest among young people and enabled to improve their practical skills from childhood and later in adolescence.
As a result of such care today, you can see a lot of medals won by young Uzbek athletes at the prestigious international competitions, and to say with complete certainty that with the harmonious development of young people have a great future of Uzbekistan.
In turn, we are ready to develop cooperation with our Uzbek colleagues in children’s sports field, and as the President of All-Russian Federation of School Sport I invite teams of Uzbekistan to take part in the 4th Festival of School Sport of CIS countries, which will be held in Krasnodar from September 25 to October 2, 2016.
We know that these days our friendly Uzbekistan takes a lot of work for a worthy meeting and celebration of 25th anniversary of the state independence.
Taking this opportunity, I wish the sunny and multinational country peace and stability, and all its inhabitants – further welfare and prosperity!
Secretary General of the Energy Charter: Uzbek model of economic and social development has fully justified itself
Secretary General of the European Energy Charter Urban Rusnak has congratulated the people of Uzbekistan with the 25th anniversary of independence.
– 25 years is an important date. From the first days of independence, Uzbekistan has been undertaking profound structural reforms that today have already brought about visible results. And they inspire confidence in a brighter future. Now I can say with conviction that the Uzbek model of social and economic development, worked out by President Islam Karimov, has fully justified itself and is the bedrock of not only the prosperity of the state, but it also ensures the well-being of different ethnic and sub-ethnic groups living in Uzbekistan.
It is commendable that one of the priority directions of the state policy is nurturing of comprehensively advanced young generation and boosting women’s health. After all, only healthy people can ensure the welfare and prosperity of the nation. In this regard, I believe the decision to declare the year 2016 in the country as the one of healthy mother and child was deeply thought-out.
I should note that this year is significant in that Uzbekistan has chaired the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. SCO is important platform to strengthen partnerships in the region, in which Uzbekistan is considered one of the leaders. I think that this fact has helped raise the standing of the organization, improve its activities, and cement peace and security in the SCO space. I am confident that the adopted documents will facilitate the enhancement of cooperation of member states in the name of stability and progress in the region.
One of the main achievements of Uzbekistan during the years of independent development is the creation of a favorable investment climate, enhancement of the attractiveness of business, which contributes to drawing in foreign direct investment. In this context, it should be noted that the Energy Charter is ready to contribute to the development of the nation’s economy, becoming a bridge to find and be a magnet for new investments in the energy sector of the country.
I take this opportunity to congratulate the people of Uzbekistan with an important jubilee date and wish every success and prosperity!
Ambassador of Azerbaijan: Uzbekistan is the central state in the region, without participation of which no important issue can be solved
Festive atmosphere of the greatest event in the history of Uzbek people – the 25th anniversary of state independence is already hovering over our country. In connection with this auspicious occasion the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Tashkent, kindly give interviews to Jahon Information Agency in order to talk about the past of our republic path.
Thus, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan Huseyn Guliyev, expressing his wishes to Uzbek people, shared his assessments of the work done over the years of independence.
– Mr. Ambassador, this year Uzbekistan celebrates the 25th anniversary of independence. We would be grateful to hear your opinion on the success achieved by our country in the sphere of state and social construction.
– Over the years of independence Uzbekistan has carried out a large-scale administrative reform – modernization and renewal of the structures of state and economic management, reorganization of local government bodies. And thanks to the successful reforms of the indigenous socio-political system, rapid and sustainable development of the country has been ensured, foundation of a new national state system has been formed, democratic legal state and strong civil society foundations have been established.
– Economic development is one of the most important policies of every state. In your opinion, what measures provide a positive dynamics of Uzbek economy?
– Your country’s achievements over the years of independence are primarily the result of balanced, promptly started, comprehensively thought-out reformation policy intended for a long-term, liberalization and economic modernization, diversification of its structure.
Uzbek model of transition to a socially-oriented free market economy has fully justified itself in practice. It is no secret that today many countries are studying your experience in this area, including the anti-crisis program to prevent and neutralize effects of the global economic crisis.
In my opinion, the wide attraction of investments in various economic sectors, an increase in the capacity and volume of exports, sound monetary policy are an important factor of growth of Uzbek economy.
– Mr. Ambassador, how do you assess Uzbekistan’s steps towards development of the social sphere?
– According to the tradition in Uzbekistan, each year is dedicated to a certain social direction, in the framework of which widespread and effective measures for its development are being adopted. At the initiative of the head of state 2016 was declared as the Year of a healthy mother and child. The state has once again demonstrated its full commitment to a strong social policy and the idea ”human is the highest value.”
Considering that healthy and happy family is the foundation of a strong future, this factor has been given one of the priority values in social policy. I am confident that adopted state program will allow reaching new frontiers in this field.
– Representatives of more than 130 nations and nationalities live in Uzbekistan. Mr. Ambassador, what factors impact on the assertion of an atmosphere of tolerance in the society?
– Having said that Uzbekistan is home to more than 130 nations, you have answered your own question. This is an obvious case of inter-ethnic harmony. Uzbekistan – a multinational and multi-confessional country, where representatives of various ethnic groups live in peace and harmony.
Achieving this level of quality is a natural result of national policy pursued by your country’s leadership and based on humanism and universal values.
According to official statistics, about 40 thousand Azerbaijanis live in Uzbekistan. They are present in almost all the country: living in Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Navoi, Samarkand, Syrdarya, Tashkent and Ferghana regions, the city of Tashkent. It is encouraging that they have made and continue to make a worthy contribution to the development of economy, industry, science and culture of Uzbekistan.
– Please share your views and assessments of current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between our two countries.
– In a short period of time after independence, Uzbekistan has become an equal member of the international community, many international organizations, taking its rightful place in the world. Republic, with its powerful human and resource potential, is the central state in the region, where any important issue cannot be solved without it.
Relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are developing dynamically, effectively and efficiently. In 25 years since independence, they are regarded as a strategic partnership.
Azerbaijan is grateful to Uzbekistan for its active support in the election of our country to the non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. We, for our part, have always supported and will support Uzbekistan in all international organizations.
– Your wishes to the people of Uzbekistan on the occasion of the approaching great holiday.
– Taking this pleasant opportunity, with great pleasure I am sending my warmest greetings to the brotherly people of Uzbekistan on the occasion of the anniversary of independence! I sincerely wish you good luck in the upcoming endeavors, happiness, peace, prosperity, well-being and warmth to each family!
Uzbekistan has successfully built its own model of development
On the occasion of upcoming holiday – our country’s Independence Day, in parallel with the greetings and sincere wishes coming from diplomatic missions abroad, representatives of foreign countries assess the achievements of republic over the years of sovereign development.
Ayfer Ilhan – the head of the popular daily Turkish publication DUNYA Gazetesi, specializing on international life, shared his thoughts on this subject. She noted a considerable interest among their readers for the results of 25 years of independent development of Uzbekistan.
– Your country has successfully formed its own model of development, corresponding to the national realities, A.Ilhan stressed. In her opinion, the experience of our country in the restoration of national statehood and an independent foreign policy strategy is truly worth careful study.
According to the journalist, people in Turkey watch the progress of large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan with a genuine interest and are sincerely happy for every achievement of the Uzbek people, who once again has established itself in its difficult history as a mature nation that can build an independent state and occupy a worthy place in the international community.
– We are convinced that the country, which will soon celebrate the 25th anniversary of the State Independence, will continue its successful path forward, representing the embodiment of centuries-old ancestral aspirations and noble aspirations of the present generation to build a free and strong country with a great future.
I take this opportunity to congratulate all Uzbek people on the anniversary of independence and wish them further success, peace and prosperity!

Georgian Ambassador: Uzbekistan occupies a worthy place in the international relations
On the eve of 25th anniversary of our country’s state independence Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Uzbekistan Konstantin Jgenti in an interview with Jahon I.A. shared his opinion about the achievements of our country over the past period and expressed his sincere wishes to the Uzbek people on the occasion of the anniversary.
– The success of Uzbekistan in the sphere of state and social construction is obvious. Proof of this is the holding of such important events as election. According to its results, it is clear that the people of Uzbekistan fully supports the country’s leadership’s strategy, aimed at building a democratic state.
It is very important that the country has set course for diversification of economy with the transition from monoculture of cotton production to the development of other industries, including high tech, industrial production, development of infrastructure and services. Investment in the social sector has been increased.
It is impossible not to note the progress in the reform of agriculture. The policy of country’s leadership, aimed at the promotion of the national agricultural industry, food self-sufficiency, was very effective.
In the years of independence gross domestic product continues to grow steadily. Since the mid-2000s, the economy began to gain momentum. Thus, according to the World Bank in the period of 2007-2014 years, its growth rate averaged 8.4%.
In September 2015, the International Monetary Fund reported “steady growth” of Uzbek economy in recent years and praised the prudent economic policy of government, which provided “a sufficient level of foreign exchange reserves, a margin of safety in public sector and low rate of public debt.”
The business climate in Uzbekistan has become favorable due to the measures aimed at creating necessary conditions for the development of private enterprise and foreign investment.
Considerate attitude for the family, parents and children in Uzbekistan are traditionally hold a special place. Therefore, the State program “Year of a healthy mother and child”, which was initiated this year by President Islam Karimov, is a reflection of these traditions. I am confident that its implementation will not only strengthen the family institution, but also contribute to fostering of healthy and harmoniously developed, strong generation.
The Georgians, like the Uzbek people have always been proud of tradition of tolerance and humanity. In a short period of my tenure as Ambassador of Georgia in Uzbekistan every day I am convinced that your society can be an example of such good traditions.
Thanks to a wise and far-sighted policy of the government of Uzbekistan the country since the first years of independence takes its rightful place in international relations. The important initiatives of international importance put forward by the head of state and supported by the international community can be proof of this.
It should be noted that Uzbekistan is geopolitical center of gravity of the whole Central Asia. No significant problem in the region can be solved without participation of a strategic location and political weight of the country as Uzbekistan.
Georgia and Georgian people have established friendly relations with Uzbekistan. There are no key points in the foreign policy of our country, on which the two sides would have dissensions. The principles embodied in the UN Charter are the main basis of our cooperation.
From the first years of independence, the bilateral relations have been developing very stable, and I am pleased to emphasize that the last two years have been particularly successful. This is evidenced by the fact that transit of goods from Uzbekistan to Europe and other countries through our railways and the port of Poti has increased 7 times.
At the same time, during this period our countries conducted a meeting of the Uzbek-Georgian intergovernmental commission, in the course of which the parties have developed a plan for the further development of economic and trade relations.
Together with Uzbek colleagues conducted the days of Georgian cinema in the country, which was attended by well-known actors of our country. This year, the first steps have been taken to maintain cooperation between Georgia and Uzbekistan orientalists to study ancient Eastern manuscripts.
Taking this opportunity, on behalf of the Government and people of Georgia I wish friendly Uzbekistan and its people further success, peace and prosperity!

Indication of Uzbek nation’s economic and moral might
It has been 20 years since an automobile was produced in Uzbekistan for the first time
A quarter of a century ago, if you said to a person who by village understood a cotton field, by worker a cotton picker and by machine building a cotton harvester that in several years’ time Uzbekistan would join the ranks of countries producing cars, what would be his response?! Indeed, an agricultural republic, which had to import even wheat, set up the production of cars just five years after achieving independence. That was unprecedented. After all, car manufacturing is a very complex and modern branch of industry.
With every passing day the greatest holiday of the country– the 25th anniversary of its independence is drawing nearer to us. At these significant moments, it is natural for Uzbek people to take a deeper look at life and search for an answer to a question: Who were we in the past and who are we today?
In a historically short space of time, consistent reforms aimed at establishing a law-governed democratic state and a strong civil society, at making systemic economic changes and at taking up a worthy position among developed countries were implemented in the country under the leadership of President Islam Karimov.
These reforms made it possible for the large creative and intellectual potential of the Uzbek people to be used for the development of their homeland and for the realization of their big dreams and for their living standards to be second to none.
Leading analysts of the world are trying to find out the secret of the country’s economic success. Although in the early 1990s, it rejected typical forms of transition to a market economy, a few years afterwards Uzbekistan was one of the first among the former Soviet republics to achieve GDP growth. This country created a strong social security system for low-income sections of its population and achieved self-sufficiency in such strategic products as oil and grain. All these were unexpected for the international community.
20 years ago, the Asaka automobile plant was put into operation. On 19 July 1996 the official opening ceremony of the UzDaewooauto joint venture took place in Asaka.
At that ceremony, President Islam Karimov said: “People in our country and far and close neighbours understand well that the construction of this large plant requires not only economic and financial possibilities but also big moral power and a big heart.”
Car manufacturing is regarded as one of the leading branches of industry in the world. According to reports, this branch of industry accounts for nearly 10 per cent of the world’s GDP and is capable of a deep systemic economic change. The most modern and advanced technologies are widely used in car manufacturing, and its products are of large added value. This serves to ensure the industry’s competitiveness.
Every job created in the branch leads to 7-15 jobs opening in other branches and to a rise in demand for highly qualified specialists in the country.
Results of program for setting up local production.
The setting up of local production of products is a priority area of developing the car manufacturing industry and raising its production potential. It makes the consistent and steady development of the economy possible. Thanks to it, new jobs can be created, and the process of introducing modern efficient technologies into the production sector can be accelerated. Most importantly, it serves to use local raw materials and production resources more widely, to encourage the production of competitive goods and to save foreign currency through reducing the import of components.
Today, bumpers, auto enamels, sealants, industrial paints, exhaust pipes, fuel tanks, fuel pumps, car windows and seats, car batteries, electric cable binders, car interior components, car exterior lights, fuel, oil and air filters, encapsulated glass, generators, compressors, wheel discs, car frame parts and other products are made at many enterprises in the country.
In the initial years, dozens of joint ventures such as Uzdongju, Uzdongwon, Uztonghong and Uzsemyung were established.
Today more than 35 large production entities are working within the Uzavtosanoat joint-stock company.
It should be said especially that in 2011 the General Motors Powertrain Uzbekistan joint venture’s work on motor production was started in cooperation with General Motors.
General Motors Powertrain Uzbekistan has the capacity to produce more than 225 thousand car engines a year. Motors being produced to Euro-5 international ecological standards are supplied to the Asaka car manufacturing plant and are also exported.
The programme for setting up the local production of finished goods, components and materials in20015-2019, approved by the presidential decree dated 11 February 2015, creates wide possibilities for enterprises of the sphere. This programme envisages the local production of more than 30 types of industrial products such as shock absorbers, speedometers, technical resin for cars, small and standard batteries, radiators, air conditioners and noise blocking materials.
The country’s car manufacturing sector had a good effect on other similar sectors in it and is of important significance to providing employment. This is clearly evident in the fact that today more than 27 thousand people work in this system.
At every house
An automobile is a means of transport and of raising the quality of life. This aspect alone can help one understand and feel that the living standards in the country have risen so much. Today 42 in every 100 families in the country have cars.
“In the past, by house people understood a house consisting of a few rooms. Nowadays the construction of a house starts with building a parking space,” says Bahriddin Tursunov living in Bakhmal District.
Briefly speaking, the country’s car manufacturing industry, which is a vivid example of the Uzbek model of development, rapidly and steadily developed over the past 20 years and turned into a firm branch of this independent country’s industry. Today this country is among 52 countries producing cars and is among the top 30 in terms of production capacity, which shows that the international prestige of the Uzbek national auto-industry is rising. All these are actually confirmation of the ongoing realization of Uzbek people’s dream – the Uzbekistan is a Country with a Great Future idea put forward by the President in the very first days of sovereignty.

On the occasion of anniversary I want to wish the people of the friendly country to achieve new successes and high goals. I am sure that Uzbekistan will continue to be a driving force for progress in the entire region of Central Asia”.

It has been said that under the leadership of the country’s President special attention is being paid to restoring national values, doing improvement work at sacred sites and places of pilgrimage and developing craftsmanship. Vision, Consideration, Resolve
Samira Frimesh, head of department for communications at the Kuwait-based Al Nahar daily, has suggested that all the achievements made by Uzbekistan are associated with the head of state.
“This year, your nation is celebrating the 25th anniversary of state independence. Led by President Islam Karimov and by opting out for a way of building a democratic state and a robust civil society, Uzbekistan has made impressive achievements across all sectors and areas within a historically short period of time.
The main aim of the reforms spearheaded in the country is, first of all, comprehensive protection of human rights and freedoms, provision for a decent life and well-being of the people. In this respect, a positive assessment of merit goes to the measures taken in Uzbekistan to modernize the economy, diversify industries, and deliver favorable conditions for attracting foreign investments. All of the country’s successes are recognized and acknowledged by the international economic and financial institutions and agencies.
As member of the press, I would like to highlight the creation in Uzbekistan of legal conditions for the development of civil society institutions, including the media. Their status is based on such constitutional provision as freedom of the press, responsibility for the accuracy of the information and the inadmissibility of censorship. I witnessed all this during my participation as a foreign journalist in the elections of the President of your country in 2015.
I believe all the achievements of Uzbekistan during independence years in various spheres are inextricably linked with the name of the head of state. It is thanks to the far-sighted, balanced, firm and principled policy of Islam Karimov that the nation has become a full-fledged member of the world community, active member of reputable regional and international organizations. Crucially though, there is peace and stability reigning in the country, where the representatives of different ethnic groups and religions have been living in harmony and equally making their invaluable contribution to the development of society.
Uzbekistan prepares to celebrate the 25th anniversary of independence

According to the document, on the eve of the holiday there will be held youth festival “Children of Independence”, “The future – for us”, national festival of friendship and culture “Uzbekistan – our common home”, scientific and practical conference “National idea – our idea”, the final stage of the republican competition “You’re the only sacred Motherland!” the best song and music glorifying the independence of our country, as well as traditional show-contest as “The greatest, the dearest”, “To live for the sake of the motherland”, “Image of Motherland – through the eyes of artist”, “Praising you, a contemporary”, “Chronicle of independence”, “This is – my motherland”.
