Visit of the delegation of EU experts headed by Mr. Rolf Schulze, the Director of the Unit for South Caucuses and Central Asia countries of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany to Uzbekistan

In accordance with the request of the Presidency the Federal Republic of Germany in the Council of the European Union, the delegation of EU experts headed by the Director of the Unit for South Caucuses and Central Asia countries of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany Mr. Rolf Schulze has visited Uzbekistan from 31 March to 4 April 2007.

Purpose of the visit - to discuss additional questions related to the events that took place in Andijan in May 2005, which emerged after the EU experts had visited Uzbekistan on 11-15 December 2006.

In the framework of this visit EU experts were received in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had meetings with experts of law-enforcement agencies of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Office of the General Prosecutor, as well as with convicted persons, their defense lawyers and judges.

During expert meetings the European delegation was provided with comprehensive information on all interested issues related to results of the inquiry and judicial examination into the criminal cases brought on Andijan events. The meetings in the framework of the visit were hold in businesslike atmosphere and in the spirit of mutual understanding. The sides expressed common satisfaction on constructive dialogue they have had.
