Uzbek parliament appoints new Speaker of Legislative Chamber

The Plenary session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan was held on January 23, 2008.

The decision was made at the session to relieve Speaker Erkin Khalilov from his position due to health reasons based on his request.

The Kengash (Council) of the Legislative Chamber proposed the candidature of Dilorom Tashmuhamedova, Deputy Speaker of the chamber and head of the Adolat social-democratic party’s fraction, to the post of the Speaker.

Based on the results of the secret voting, Dilorom Tashmuhamedova was elected Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.
