Imam Complex in Tashkent
April 28, 2007
On April 25, 2007 the President of the Republic of
Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited a complex of Khazrati Imam in Tashkent and
studied the constructive and betterment works, which are accomplished there.
Architectural complex of Khazrati Imam (known as Khastimom) is a sacred
abode, which enjoys a profound respect in the country, as well as the Muslim
world.
Considering its role and significance in the history, spiritual and moral
life of the country’s population, the wide-range construction and
restoration works started here in November last year on the initiative of
the President of Uzbekistan. At the moment, the complex is acquiring a
totally new look.
Islam Karimov has studied the restoration of initial historical look of
Khazrati Imam Complex, as well as the works on construction, renovation,
betterment and comprehensive development of the local infrastructure.
The President’s Decree of February 20 this year on the support of Khazrati
Imam (Khastimom) public fund has set a complex of measures on construction
and renovation of the complex. Within the framework of this document the
Kaykovus Aryk (the irrigation ditch), which flows next to the nine
hectares-wide territory complex has been fully bettered. Besides, the new
building of Spiritual Board of Muslims of Uzbekistan has been erected.
Islam Karimov visited the library, where the ancient and unique manuscripts,
including the most ancient sample of Osman’s Koran are preserved. The
President shared with his advises on the reforms of library system of the
country, and in particular, improving the activity of the local library.
Reconstruction, building and assembly works at the sites of the Khazrati
Imam Complex are accomplished based on the approved schedule and modern
requirements. During his visit the President spoke of the need to recover
the original inscriptions on the portal of monuments and instructed to
carefully treat the history.
On the initiative of Islam Karimov the mosque with two minarets and two
domes is now being erected on the territory of the complex. This unique
building will become the largest mosque not only in the capital city but
the entire country.
Dynamic works are implemented also on the territory of historical
monuments, which are a part of the complex – mausoleum of Kaffol Shoshiy,
Baroqkhon and Muyi Muborak madrassahs, Tillashaykh and Namozgokh Mosques.
It is worth noting that Khazrati Imam Complex is located on the venue,
where Tashkent had started to rise. Restoring the initial look of this part
of city is being accomplished within the framework of the events dedicated
to the ISESCO's conferring on Tashkent a title of the capital of Islamic
Culture in 2007.
