On seminar “Development of the system of execution of punishment in the sphere of organization of supervision and observance of prisoner’s rights”

According to the working plan of the Ombudsman of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the first traveling seminar on the theme “Development of the system of execution of punishment in the sphere of organization of supervision and observance of prisoner’s rights” was held on February 2007 in the city of Termez.

This event was organized by the Ombudsman jointly with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representative of Konrad Adenauer fund in Central Asia, Kazakhstan and South Caucasus.

During the seminar participants noted that modern instrument of management development - monitoring of protection of human rights is becoming one of the most actual directions in the activity of state bodies and public organization of Uzbekistan.

Furthermore, participants of the seminar visited investigation cell in the city of Termez in order to study the conditions of maintenance of prisoners where they meet with different type of prisoners and sentenced people, as well as with the personal staff of the penal jurisdiction.

Seminar was the first in the series of such events on abovementioned theme which planned to organize during 2007 in the cities of Bukhara, Namangan, Nukus and Urgench.
