On visits of Ombudsman to the Namangan region

At the end of June, 2007 the Human Rights Representative (Ombudsman) of the Oliy Majis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited the Namangan region.

During the visit to the Namangan region the following issues were considered: maintenance of legitimate interests of the rights of citizens in various conditions, interactions with local public authorities, assistance to activity of the Representative of regional office of Ombudsman; the organization of visiting conference-seminar; monitoring of providing the rights in penal institutions; and receiving citizens on the issues they are interested in.

During the meeting with authorities of the region, issues on providing the rights of citizen were discussed. It is necessary to note, that during the visit of Ombudsman to the region the session of regional Kengash took place, were information of the regional representative of Ombudsman on the situation in sphere on providing the human rights in Namangan region was considered.

Regular visiting seminar-conference entitled «Perfection of executing punishment system in sphere of organization of supervision and observance of the prisoner’ rights», which was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and representation of Konrad Adenauer's Fund in Central Asia, Kazakhstan and Southern Caucasus, showed the increased level of legal culture of law enforcement officials.

During continues monitoring of penitentiary institutions the following activities were made in pretrial detention center №12 of the Central administrative boards of execution of punishments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic Uzbekistan: activity of catering block and medical service was scrutinized, condition of service, household and auxiliary facilities were examined, Ombudsman met with various categories of detainees, which located in area Uychin.

Visiting of pretrial detention centre was conducted with participation of deputy of the head of representation of Konrad Adenauer's Fund in the Central Asia, Kazakhstan and Southern Caucasus Mr. Michael Winzer.
