IN THE TRADITION OF NAVRUZ

On the eve of Navruz, a festive concert Navro’z Keldi Yurtimga (Navruz Comes to Our Land) has taken place in the grand hall of the Uspensky Republican Specialized Music Academic Lyceum within the charitable project ‘Children for Children.’

The atmosphere in the hall was truly festive and joyful. The assembled audience consisted of bоth elderly people and representatives of the younger generation of Tashkent. But the most grateful viewers were children.

Before the beginning of the concert, the director of the lyceum, the author of the project Dildora Jamalova spoke. In her welcoming speech she expressed gratitude to all those present and participants of the concert. Then a video was shown that calls for helping children in need of treatment, as well as some fragments from charity concerts of the project ‘Children for Children’, which took place bоth in Tashkent and abroad. All this went under the motto ‘We are stronger when together!’

The program was opened by a duet of Zilola Khamidullayeva and Diyor Ruzimetov with the composition ‘Mustaqil O’zbekiston’ (Independent Uzbekistan). Then the works of Uzbek and foreign composers were performed by students of the lyceum, many of which are laureates of republican and international competitions. The audience was pleased with the compositions from the opera ‘Boris Godunov’ performed by the trainee at the Alisher Navoi Grand Theater Sultan Abdurahimov. Distinctive was the performance of the song ‘Mama’ from the repertoire of Robertino Loretti by the young talent Behruz Atamjanov, which touched the hearts of listeners with its lyricism and sincerity.

The choir of boys participated in the concert as well, the performance of which differed in depth of expressiveness. The ensemble of wind instruments also pleased the audience with the lively performance of the Venus composition.

The last one was the hymn of the project ‘Children for Children’ that was performed by all the participants of the concert, which was written by the lyceum graduates.

The first concert within the charity action ‘Children for Children’ was held in 2005. Since September 2012, concerts have been held monthly. Participants of this action each time prepare a new program. It should be emphasized that there are no analogues of such a project in the world.

Over the years, students of other children’s schools of music and art, colleges, lyceums, and Uzbek pop stars took part in this project. Musicians performed from the Republic of Korea, Germany, Turkey, France, and the world-famous musician, People’s Artist of Russia Yuri Bashmet conducted the master class with the Youth Symphonic Orchestra. In 2016, Meros ensemble gave concerts in the Children’s Burn Center in Germany. All this suggests that art and the desire to cultivate kindness unite young musicians, and the charity project ‘Children for Children’ becomes international.

All funds from the sale of tickets by students and the parents’ board of trustees are sent for the purchase of expensive drugs for children who are being treated at the Research Institute of Hematology. Within this period there were purchased medicines for 25 million soums. A targeted assistance was also provided to teachers of the lyceum, who need treatment.

At the end of the concert the director of the Uspensky Republican Specialized Music Academic Lyceum Dildora Jamalova answered the questions of UT correspondent.

The main purpose of this concert was to raise funds for the treatment of Yasmina, a three-year-old patient of the Institute of Hematology. How did you know about her?

“Last summer, our colleague asked us to help in the treatment of seriously ill Yasmina, whose disease requires expensive surgeries. We call her our future student; she is the daughter of our teacher and sister of our two students. By the way, a week ago she already passed the first stage of the preparatory treatment – chemotherapy, now the proceeds will go to further operations, which in the near future will help her to recover and begin to enjoy life and opportunities to do her favorite thing – music.”

By what principle do you choose those who need help?

“We try to help children with severe diagnoses, whose parents do not have enough money for treatment. Basically they are all patients of the children’s unit of the Research Institute of Hematology. We also provide assistance to adults, in particular to our teachers, who also needed costly surgeries, health resumption.

In order to maintain the spirit of our wards and the desire to fight the disease, we make records of charity concerts and hand them over so that they remember that they did not face the disease alone.

You know, happiness is in our children, in their smiles and laughter. Our activity is aimed at ensuring that all sick children become healthy and happy, and young talents help us in this.”

A SYMBOL OF BEAUTY AND KINDNESS!

The long-awaited, cherished, beautiful and amazing holiday of Navruz has come to our native land together with the spring – the most enchanting and magic time of the year.

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated all the citizens on the occasion of this wonderful holiday – the New Year by the Eastern calendar. He noted that this year, Navruz is celebrated nationwide amid open air festivities, which adds special brilliance and splendor, and its spirit and philosophy are consonant with the noble ideas and goals of the Year of Dialogue with the People and of Human Interests.

The President emphasized that the entire nation celebrates Navruz in uplifted spirits and joy; people cook Sumalak and other viands of the spring season. Entertainment events and festivities are taking place everywhere. People express gratitude to the Almighty for peaceful sky, treat each other with kindness and charity, generosity and heartedness, visit respectable aksakals and mothers, all those who need help and support, organize mass work campaigns, contribute to beautification of communities, and the country in general. The essence and deep meaning of Navruz is concluded in such good deeds.

The President also pointed out that Navruz is truly the most loved holiday for representatives of different nations and ethnic groups living in our country, for the entire nation.

The long-awaited breath of spring and Navruz is pervaded everywhere – in city squares and parks, in the buds swelling on the trees, in the first flowers, in the fields with growing winter crops, in saplings that are being prepared for new gardens and vineyards.

Accompanied by singing of colorful birds these March days, the brightly shining and warm sun colors the nature in unique colors, the earth is dressed in green outfit, and the air is filled with tender aroma of flowers and freshness.

Most importantly, the spring has come not just on the calendar, not only in bright manifestations of native nature, but it has filled souls and hearts, as proved by smiling faces of people and their sonorous laughter.

In this beautiful time, a new force appears to charge us, and a new energy embraces the whole being, prompting for kindness and creation. The old and the young deeply feel themselves a part of the miraculous nature, realize the need to cherish and preserve it, coexist in harmony with it and appreciate every day of this fleeting life.

It is difficult, even impossible to fail to become better, kinder, nobler and tolerant, imbued with the trembling mystery and amazing beauty of the surrounding nature. Navruz motivates for that.

The holiday is very ancient. Scientists believe that it comes back to several millenia. For our distant ancestors, it not just marked the beginning of the New Year according to the solar chronology, but carried hope for the best, helped to believe in good. Navruz is the historical memory of our people. Its spirit and philosophy motivate for living in harmony with nature, helping relatives and the needy, showing charity and mercy.

It is hard to imagine today, how people celebrated and cheered in the days of the vernal equinox, the flow of joyful feelings, how they sang and danced, had fun, tasted various dishes, drinks and sweets, how sincerely they tried to get rid of the burden of the past, ensure happiness and wellbeing in their homes, keeping in mind those who need help and support.

To date, we have still preserved the ability to express our positive emotions straightforward, to feel ourselves happy fr om the mere thought that we live on this land, that we can enjoy the morning dawn and the beauty of the rosebud, love and be loved. And Navruz is a wonderful opportunity to experience these happy moments!

The philosophy of this magical holiday is built on huge optimism. It seems to convince a person: all is going to be fine; you just have to believe in it! It seems to motivate: look at the nature surrounding you – it has revived and blossomed after a severe winter, follow its example. It seems to exclaim: life is beautiful, no matter what! Let us believe the ancient and wise holiday, it has seen so much…

Another remarkable side of Navruz is the urge to forgive each other’s grievances. How wise it is! How relevant it is. What a wonderful motive to forget about some misunderstanding or dislike, open your heart to your neighbor, warmed by sunny beams of Navruz.

Navruz stands for ‘new day’. This is a call for people to renew, improve the world around them. In the years of independence, this facet of Navruz has acquired an unprecedented scale, filled with a special content.

The nationwide work campaigns on the occasion of Navruz have become a wonderful tradition. People arrange their housing, communities, the streets they live in, their native towns or villages. Flowers and tree seedlings are planted in all regions of the country. Irrigation channels and canals are cleaned; flower beds are arranged in sacred places. Specific and targeted aid is rendered to lonely and elderly people, people with disabilities, and low-income families along with the large-scale beautification works. That proves the fact that the noble age-old traditions live nowadays.

Navruz is celebrated throughout the country as nationwide open air festivities. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the Navruz festivities in Abdulla Kodiry Culture and Recreation Park in Tashkent. He had a look at the works presented at the exhibition of handicraft products, talked with artisans.

The President met with heads of embassies of foreign countries and representatives of international organizations, and sincerely congratulated them with the holiday.

He watched the concert program that reflected the harmony of Navruz and the spring of life, talked with aksakals.

Open air festivities were held in all districts of Tashkent – nearly 20 parks and sites of the capital organized performances of pop artists, poets, comedians, theater and circus groups, folk and ethnic groups, demonstration performances of athletes, national and spring dishes fairs.

They were attended by members of the Senate and Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, representatives of state and public organizations, foreign embassies and international organizations, guests of the capital.

The sounds of karnay and surnay announced of the beginning of festivities in the Anhor Lokomotiv Park of Tashkent. There were many children. Their joyful voices pleased the ear as they were running and flying kites. Sumalyak, halim, and festive pilav were cooked in large boilers, and then treated to visitors.

A variety of songs and dances performed by folk and ethnic groups, performances of palvans and riders comprehensively reveal unique folk traditions.

“Spring and Navruz embody the youth, beauty, hopes and purity of thoughts,” said Tulkin Kilichev, a student of the Uzbek State Institute of Physical Culture. “Spring is always in our hearts. The state policy on growing a comprehensively advanced young generation has been successfully pursued since the first days of independence.”

Vibrant and festive atmosphere reigned in Mirzo Ulugbek Culture and Recreation Park in Tashkent. The national melodies called people to festivities, filling the hearts with joy. The songs glorified the homeland, peace, spring. Children gifted snowdrops to the guests. Laughter and sonorous songs were heard everywhere in the park.

Festivities were also held on Pushkin Square near the Republican Interethnic Cultural Center. Organizers arranged an exhibition of national cultural centers, wh ere representatives of various nationalities demonstrated their national dress, folk art, songs and dances. Indeed, Navruz is a truly national holiday: all compatriots residing on the Uzbek land, regardless of nationality, language, religion, look forward to it. Uzbekistan is home to more than 130 ethnic and subethnic groups, who live here in peace and harmony. They work selflessly in all areas of society in the name of the development and prosperity of our common home – our native Uzbekistan.

Spring and festive mood prevailed throughout the capital. Amazing scenes of spring, our beautiful nature and renewed Motherland, pleased the eye in the Alisher Navoi National Park, accompanied by lovely melodies.

The program of festivities in the Green Park of the Sergeli district of the capital reflected the best folk traditions and customs that are associated with Navruz. It included traditional song competitions among girls, folk games among young men, hospitable treatment with sumalak and halim.

The celebration of Navruz plays an important role in growing the younger generation, shaping their outlook by the example of the best national values, the unique and original Uzbek folk art.

Navruz is widely celebrated in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. Exhibitions of handicrafts, culinary and confectionery products, performances of folk and ethnic groups, competitions of bakhshi and palvan, folk games with the participation of young men and women added charm to the festivities.

“This year, we raised awareness of origins of Navruz, its age and numerous rites in local communities and educational institutions for youth,” says Oltingul Muhambetova, an advisor on religious education, spiritual and moral enlightenment of Nurly Buston Mahalla citizen’s assembly in Kegeyli District. “Our community is home to more than 2,600 people of different ethnic background – Uzbeks, Karakalpaks, Kazakhs, Tajiks, Kyrgyz, Russians, Bashkirs, Koreans and others, who live and work in friendship and harmony.”

The Ferghana Valley proved well prepared for the holiday. Open air festivities in the Andijan region were held under the motto ‘Navruz Is a Holiday of Peace, Solidarity and Fraternity’. National cultural centers organized exhibitions of traditions and customs of various ethnic groups, and a national dress show.

“We are greateful to the Almighty for these bright and happy days,” says the veteran of labor, holder of the Shuhrat medal Ranokhon Jumaniyozova of Bulakbashi district. “Our country is prospering, life is peaceful, the food is abundant. These are the fruits of good intentions and aspirations of our hardworking people.”

In the foothills and steppes of Kashkadarya, Navruz festivities were followed by competitions of kupkari and kurash.

“Looking at the festive events, I get once again convinced of how our country has developed and comprehensively strengthened in the years of independence. The living standards have grown, and the outlook has changed,” says the 81-year-old resident of the Gulshan Mahalla in Karshi, Shukur-Bobo Safarov. “We have experienced true respect and reverence in the years of independence. May peace, tranquility and blue sky always reign in our country.”

The national holiday is celebrated solemnly and in high spirits in the Samarkand region. Artistic groups and pop artists performed in concerts and theater performances.  Pilav, sumalak and other spring meals were cooked at a festive fair.

Performances of folk and amateur art groups and pop artists were organized in amphitheaters of the Alisher Navoi and Sogdiana Culture and Recreation Parks.

Open air festivities are underway in all cities and villages of Uzbekistan.

A Holiday of All Ethnicities

Elena Mironova,

Chairperson of the German Ethnic Cultural Center:

Navruz has turned into one of the most beautiful holidays not just for the Uzbek people, but also for representatives of all ethnic groups living in harmony on our blessed land. The holiday gives me a feeling of the New Year, new hopes, new ideas. We are grateful to the head of our state for the care and attention, for the priority of interethnic harmony and tolerance.

Confident in the Future of My Children

Kamola Aliyeva,

representative of a family business:

Nature, land and all life is renewed these spring days. Navruz is a holiday of kindness and happiness. These feelings are well known to almost every person on our native land.

I am happy to experience a big care for young families in Uzbekistan. My husband and I have been successfully running a family business. We are growing two wonderful kids. We are confident in their bright future and we hope that they will get a good education and become worthy members of our society.

Good Start of the Year

Hakim Sadykov, businessman:

There is a well known saying that a good person can be recognized by the eyes, and a good year – by Navruz. The signs of this holiday are obviously evident of a favorable start of the year, inspiring great hopes.

They can be seen by taking a walk along the streets of the capital. New buildings and points of household services were built in a matter of weeks, as if by magic.

The signs of Navruz demonstrate noticeable changes in other cities and villages of Uzbekistan. Streets and mahallas shine clean, ornamental and fruit trees, flower beds please the eye, as a result of selfless creativity of millions of Uzbeks in the nationwide charity mass works.

Most importantly, a true holiday has come to the soul of each of us, filling us with happiness, new hopes and accomplishments.

What Surge That Word Can Start

Mastura Kayumova,

retiree:

Navruz! What a meaning this word is carrying for each of us! It is a wonderful and wise spring festival, which makes us all better.

These festive days, I ponder over our children and grandchildren, over the things that are being done in Uzbekistan for their happiness and wellbeing. I’m sincerely happy for them. They have everything – the love of parents, the adoration of grandfathers and grandmothers, and the care of the state. I do not have to worry for their future.

At the same time, I cannot but be glad for the older generation, who also enjoy great attention. For example, trips by the Tashkent subway have recently become free for the veterans of labor. The care is conceived by every pensioner.

Love of children and respect for elders are the fundamental values of our life. Navruz calls for them too.

Deep Philosophy and Noble Spirit

Bakhtiyor Nishanov,

head of a private company:

Navruz for us is like a magic world, a symbol of generosity and kindness, nobility and mercy. These very days, we feel ourselves as part of nature, we feel how deep and meaningful the national values and traditions are, how rich the culture of our people is. All this fills our hearts with joy and pride.

Much has been said about the deep philosophy of Navruz and its noble spirit. This holiday encourages us to become better, kinder, nobler, more tolerant. The Uzbek people share their joy with their relatives at the holiday table, demonstrating their good intentions.

Wonderful and Amazing

Rene Falkner,

President of the Federal Association of TV Companies of Germany:

I have repeatedly visited Uzbekistan. In these spring days, I am endlessly happy to be a part of the amazing and unique holiday of Navruz, which takes roots from the depths of centuries. It contains so profound philosophical meaning, so many bright ideas!

I am absolutely impressed that this holiday is marked by all ethnic groups living in Uzbekistan, when each person seeks to show his and her best qualities, including care and unselfish help for others.

What felicity is there on people’s faces these days, how beautiful their smiles are, how merrily they laugh, proving that life is wonderful and amazing!

Bright Feelings and Dreams

Dilorom Fayzieva,

Member of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis:

“Let our every day be like Navruz!” These immortal lines of Alisher Navoi’s express the most sincere, light feelings and dreams of each person who shares good hopes and thoughts with friends and relatives on these holidays. They are reflected in the Year of Dialogue with the People and of Human Interests in Uzbekistan in 2017.

Initiated by the head of state, people’s reception offices serve to ensure the priority of human interests as a reliable tool for feedback between state bodies and the people.

In the Year of Dialogue with the People and of Human Interests, the President focuses on the proposals and problems of the population, supports their initiatives. The Actions Strategy for five years is as an important action plane to liberalize and modernize all areas of life, make the ongoing reforms more effective, and develop the state and society.

“This is a wonderful occasion to celebrate together. Today we join hundreds of millions of people around the world marking Nowruz. Everyone can take inspiration from this joyous holiday. It is part of our global cultural heritage,” Ban said.

He noted that Navruz is an ancient celebration that predates today’s borders and divisions. “It is a reminder that national boundaries, religious faiths and other superficial differences are not as important as our common humanity. In that way, Nowruz breaks down barriers and builds bonds of trust,” he emphasized.

“This year’s commemoration comes at an important time for our world. We are at the start of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – our plan to achieve dignity for all people – as well as the Paris Agreement on climate change.

“Nowruz is a perfect example of unity in diversity. Let us take inspiration from this meaningful holiday to make a fresh start on our journey to a more just, sustainable and peaceful world,” he concluded.

Editor’s note: while the name of the holiday is spelled “Navruz” in Uzbekistan and other countries, the spelling option adopted by the UN is “Nowruz”.

The Noble Philosophy of Navruz

Broad celebrations devoted to Navruz have been staged in Tashkent.

navruz_down

This ancient holiday takes its roots in the antique past. Scholars think that Navruz is aged three thousand years. Then too, like today, it marked not only the beginning of a new year according to solar calendar, but also carried hope for the better and maintained trust in the good deeds. Born by our forefathers and revived by independence this holiday embodies the nation’s historical memory. The spirit and philosophy of Navruz call upon humans to live in harmony with nature, help the near and dear ones and those needy, display charity and mercy, and selflessly do good to others.

Holiday celebrations devoted to Navruz were held on March 21 at the Alisher Navoi National Park of Uzbekistan. Attendees included Members of Parliament, government officials, science, culture and art workers, foremost production workers, business people and farmers, representatives of foreign embassies and international organizations accredited in our country, and the youth of the country.

President Islam Karimov delivered a welcoming speech and noted that Navruz, which emerged thousands of years ago, is the most ancient and truly national holiday, free from ideological and political trends and tendencies, and the most favorite for all of us.

“As it is known, from our many- centuries old history,” underlined the head of the state, “people would forget all their grudges and quarrels during the days of Navruz, and such noble human qualities as kindness and mercy, generosity and harmony would be further consolidated in relations between people and nations.

“The widespread introduction of such high values into life would promote the prevention of different conflicts and contradictions, stop the ongoing and increasingly escalating confrontation and bloodshed in various parts of the world, and help resolve the emerging problems only in a peaceful way through political negotiations. This approach would meet the aspirations and interests of all the peoples of the world. Namely such an approach would meet the aspirations and interest of all nations of the world.

“The most cherished dream of our wise people, who have seen much in their lifetime, is that there reigned peace and tranquility,” said the President.

Addressing young people, the President noted that the current complicated time places such pressing task as deep mastering of modern knowledge and professions, intellectual wealth, further advancement of Uzbekistan’s competitiveness on the international arena, renovation, modernization and diversification of economy with the objective of turning it the driving force of our progress and development.

The festive mood of those present was raised further when children appeared on the square and filled it with their joyous laughter, merry songs and barnstorming dances.

Children born during the years of independence enjoy particular care of the Government and grow up healthy and strong citizens of their country. Proclaiming this year “The Year of Healthy Mother and Child” in Uzbekistan became another bright confirmation of tremendous attention paid to this sphere.

…”May each day be Navruz” – these lines belong to eminent poet Alisher Navoi, who glorified this holiday in his poetry.

Celebration of Navruz is linked with the introduction of solar chronology. According to it, a year commenced on March 21 when the daytime duration equaled the nighttime and spring finally came into play. Those were the days when farmers had to take care about their fields and gardens.

The significance of this season engendered numerous customs and rituals connected with the surrounding nature and fertility. Long before Navruz, people would grow wheat and lentil seeds in dishes.

People had to repent their sins, to reconcile with their enemies, and forgive debts. Those days the good angels would abundance and prosperity to those who had pure thoughts, to those with bright souls, and to those who had order in their houses. People believed then that purity of space around a person reflected his inner condition.

The ancient book “Avesta” mentions the patrons of Navruz – rulers of the earth, water, sky and vegetation. Abu Raikhon Beruni described Navruz in detail in his works. In his book “The Monument of the Past Generations” he wrote about the origins of the holiday, its age and duration.

Omar Hayyam extols this holiday, the nobleness of rulers, who patronized it, describes customs and traditions linked with its celebration in his book “Navrus- name”, while in his “Calendar” Termezi as a result of many years of observations established specific peculiarities of each year depending on the day of the week the holiday fell on.

The best poets of the Medieval East would recite their verses during holiday celebrations and glorified Navruz, asserted the indivisibility and harmony between man and nature, and on the eve and during a New Year called upon people to free themselves from the burden of the past and take care of happiness and prosperity in their houses while remembering those who needed their help and support.

Embodying in itself the best national values and traditions of the people, its good intentions and aspirations, which make up the invaluable heritage of our ancestors, Navruz has turned into a truly nation-side holiday during the years of independence, expected impatiently of all our compatriots irrespective of their ethnic origin, language and religious convictions.

… The sounds of national music instruments and folk songs resound over the square and folk- ethnographic ensembles perform their dances. Traditional sumalak is cooked in cauldrons, hot flat bread is baked in tandyrs and young boys and girls keep singing and dancing. The monitors display beautifu landscapes and the modem appearance of our country, the unique ancient monuments and magnificent modern structures, well-designed and prospering towns and villages.

“Navruz is celebrated in Uzbekistan with sincere joy,” Ambassador of Japan Fumihiko Kato said. “It is noteworthy that the national tradition is perceived with great pride by the people, especially the youth. We are very pleased with the consistent development of cooperation between our countries in all spheres in the spirit of friend and mutual trust on a mutually beneficial basis.”

The celebrations of Navuz were broadcast via satellites in dozens of countries around the world, and thanks to the Internet people in all parts of the globe turned into their participants.

Celebrations and festivities continue in all the cities and villages of our Motherland. The holiday keeps marching on across the country.

Glorification of peace, well-being and prosperity

The National Park of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi hosted celebrations dedicated to the national holiday Navruz.

glory_peace

Navruz – an invaluable heritage of our ancestors, since time immemorial embodying the best national values and traditions of our people, their good intentions and aspirations, during the years of independence has become a truly national holiday which all our fellow citizens regardless of nationality, language and religion are looking forward to.

In accordance with the Decree of the Head of our state “On the preparation and conduct of the national holiday Navruz in 2016″ all-round preparation for the holiday was carried out across the country. Our people welcome this holiday with new successes, thank for the bright days and enjoy life.

March 21. the National Park of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi is festively decorated.

The senators and deputies, government members, men of science, culture and art, foremost people in industry, entrepreneurs, representatives of foreign embassies and representative offices of international organizations accredited in our country, young people attend the celebration.

10:30 am. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov arrives at the square.

Gathered people meet the Head of our state with applause.

Theme song rings.

President Islam Karimov delivered a welcoming speech at the celebrations dedicated to the Navruz holiday.

These days, when the nature awakens, flowers blossom and the entire surrounding is attired in green, I am greatly happy fr om the bоttom of my heart to congratulate you, my dear fellow countrymen, and in your person, our whole nation on this remarkable holiday of Navruz, said the head of our state.

Navruz is the Oriental New Year with history of several millennia, which traces back with its roots to the period of «Avesto», the ancient and truly national holiday – free fr om any ideological and political trends. This is our most beloved and most beautiful festival of spring for all of us. Navruz – the day of the vernal equinox, which marks the beginning of a new year on the eastern calendar, embodies the traditions and customs, the eternal values of our people.

These days when the bright sun awakened nature each of us is unwittingly imbued with the spirit of spring, and we feel ourselves to be an inalienable and inseparable part of nature, we feel new strength and energy.

In these radiant and joyful moments in each and every community, foothills, gardens and grasslands of our country our fellow countrymen gather around the dastarkhans (festively laid national table) decorated with such rare viands as sumalak, khalim, kuksomsa and guja, and strive to share these springtime edibles with their family, kin and friends.

No one will remain indifferent that our people, irrespective of their nationality and ethnicity, indulge in festive mood and spend this wonderful holiday with profound joy and bliss. And they congratulate on such an occasion not only the people they know, but also those they don’t know by embracing and wishing them a sound health, happiness, prosperity and good luck.

Taking this opportunity, said Islam Karimov, I would like to express my sincere wishes, love and esteem to you, my dears, who have gathered in this sublime and beautiful square, and our entire nation.

The humanistic spirit and immortal values of Navruz are carefully passed from generation to generation. No matter how many years and epochs pass by, filling with even more profound meaning and content these very idea and customs are still nowadays playing an important role in the life of our people.

It is well-known from our millennia-old history, noted the Head of our state, in the season of Navruz any resentments and quarrels are forgotten, such humane feelings as mercy and clemency, compassion and generosity become stronger among people, nations and ethnicities.

The widespread approval of such high values of Navruz in the life, certainly would have contributed to the prevention of the tensions, conflicts and confrontations ever aggravating now in the international arena, and still ongoing bloodshed, as well as to resolving the emerging problems only by way of peace and political negotiations. Just this very approach would have met the aspirations and interests of all the nations of the world.

I am confident that in these days on the eve of the Oriental New Year, if someone asks our time-tested, kind-hearted and compassionate people, who endured so many hardships and always preserve virtue and mercy in the depth of their hearts, about their most sincere wishes in the coming year – the answer, without any doubt, will be certain: we need peace and tranquility, stressed the President of our country.

The determining factor of such a solid position in life can be seen, above all, in our ancient history, multifaceted great culture, invaluable heritage left by our great scientists and thinkers, who greatly contributed to the progress of human civilization, and in the fact that for many centuries our Homeland has been the center of spirituality and enlightenment.

Moreover, it is an open secret that from the earliest times such qualities pertaining to our people as magnanimity, tolerance, humaneness, kindness, and such characteristics as performing the God-pleasing deeds and providing righteous services in supporting those in need, receiving the blessings of elderly people, showing concern for ones without parental care, have penetrated deep into the flesh and blood of our nation.

All these phenomena have been passed through the centuries from generation to generation, enriched and eventually turned into kind human ideas, laid a solid foundation for high spiritual worldview and practical guideline of our people.

Naturally, our nation, who has such noble and rare features and qualities, lives with pure dreams and aspirations, strives for peace and prosperity, wishes for clear and blue sky, no doubt, will build its relations with all countries on the basis of mutual respect, friendship and accord, consideration of mutual interests. And our most important, priority task – to protect our country from any evils and threats.

In these joyous moments, on your behalf and on behalf of our entire nation, allow me to congratulate on the holiday of Navruz, express sincere respect and wholeheartedly welcome the ambassadors of foreign countries, representatives of international organizations, foreign partners and all our dear guests who are participating at our Navruz festivities in this beautiful square, said Islam Karimov.

Our humble, generous and big-hearted people, who are greatly contributing by their courageous work and steadfastness to make Uzbekistan more prosperous and flourishing, are making the world community surprised by their accomplishments and achievements, and are firmly resisting any forces of evil, steadily following the chosen path, highly appreciating and preserving their independence, evoke admiration by all. Standing on this high rostrum, I consider it my duty to bow low before and render homage to our people, who feature such noble qualities, said the Head of our state.

Addressing the Uzbekistan’s youth, who are our support and buttress, Islam Karimov said: the severely changing time that we experience and which is becoming more complicated puts forward before all of us the following tasks: first of all, my dear children, you are required to thoroughly master the modern knowledge and professions, utilize the intellectual wealth. Along with this, the time requires to take the competitiveness of our country in the international arena to a new level, continue modernization and diversification of our economy, and turn it into a locomotive of our progress.

Along the path of achieving these very great objectives, I believe that you, my dears, are able to justify the confidence of our people and Motherland, and I stand ready to always support all of you, stressed President of our country.

At the end of his speech, Islam Karimov from the bоttom of his heart once again congratulated all people of Uzbekistan on the holiday of Navruz and wished all compatriots peace and tranquility, happiness and good health, prosperity and abundance.

… The bright sun is shining in a clear sky. Huge balloons are floating in aloft around the majestic square. Variegated flags and colorful flowers gladden the eyes.

Verdant trees, flowered decoration around a scene remind of the abundant gardens and fertile fields of our country. The sight which is familiar and close to the heart of each of our compatriot, gives upbeat mood.

Sounds of karnay-surnays ring over the square. In such life-asserting moment the hearts of our compatriots whose aspirations and thoughts are in tune with the process of awakening and renewal happening in the nature, overfill with joy and boundless gratitude for the fact that they are lucky enough once again to meet Navruz in a health, for a peaceful and prosperous life.

Navruz – messenger of any novelty and goodness. In 2015, a few days after Navruz, on March 29 an important political event in the life of our country took place – elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan were conducted. In this process which took place in full accordance with democratic principles, 90.39 percent of voters voted for Islam Karimov. This proves that our people adequately assess the enormous merits of Islam Karimov in comprehensive development of the country, building a democratic state and civil society, and improving the quality of life, and they support the continuation of ongoing reforms in all spheres.

… Under the sounds of beautiful melodies which awake spring mood in the hearts, beautiful nature and modern look of our country, the unique ancient monuments and magnificent buildings, well-planned and prosperous towns and villages appear before our eyes.

Folk songs are sounded, the folklore and ethnographic ensembles perform. Sumalyak is prepared in Kazans (spots), hot cakes are taken out from tandyrs, the young men and women sing and dance around.

In Uzbekistan the peace and tranquility, interethnic accord are recognized as a supreme value. The atmosphere of kindness, mercy, harmony and generosity is approved in our society.

Due to the peace and stability the prestige of our country in the international community is increasing. Most developed countries and leading international organizations are cooperating with Uzbekistan.

Another proof of this is an official visit of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to our country in June 2015.

Uzbekistan’s initiatives on ensuring the peace and security in the region, the fight against terrorism and crime, solving the environmental issues, health promotion, development of science, culture and art are widely supported by the UN. Our country is effectively cooperating with this organization and a number of its structures.

An international music festival “Sharq taronalari” organized on the initiative of the President of our country took place for the tenth time in 2015. This musical forum conducted under the auspices of the UNESCO, serves for the development of cultural dialogue among peoples, peace and tranquility.

Our country is committed to the course of peacefulness.

The peace – is the main factor of development. There is advancement, wh ere peace and tranquility are, and people live with the spirit of creativity and kindness. The stable economic growth of our country confirms this.

During the years of independence Uzbekistan’s economy grew by almost 6 times, real income per capita – more than 9 times. Despite the ongoing global downturn our country is among the few countries in the world which are developing steadily. The growth rate of gross domestic product has been exceeding 8 percent over the past eleven years. A balance of macroeconomic indicators, the sustainable performance of a surplus of the State budget and balance of payments, growth of export and foreign exchange reserves are being ensured.

This is the result of the “Uzbek model” of development initiated by the President of our country which was fully supported by our people and has been widely recognized in the world. These achievements – the result of selfless labor of our people – are appreciated worldwide. International expert organizations, prestigious rating agencies highly estimate the current state and prospects of development of our country.

Last year, a ranking of countries with rapidly growing economies was announced at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. In the list on the basis of the forecast of the World Bank “Global Economic Development” Uzbekistan took the fifth place among countries with the highest annual growth in 2014-2017 years.

Structural reforms, modernization, technical and technological renovation of sectors of the economy have been consistently continuing. In 2015, investments in the amount of 15 billion 800 million US dollars were attracted for these purposes at the expense of all sources of financing. Furthermore, 158 large manufacturing entities totaling 7 billion 400 million US dollars were commissioned.

Together with South Korean investors and specialists the Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex worth more than 4 billion US dollars was built on the basis of field Surgil, the “Afrosiyob” high-speed electric train service was established on a railway section Samarkand – Karshi. All these cause us great satisfaction and pride.

Growth and development in all areas are also reflected in the new image of our country. A large-scale creative work is carried out in towns and villages. Last year, dozens of modern multi-storey buildings, new roads and bridges were built in Tashkent. 12 000 houses on standard projects and about 170 infrastructure facilities were built in the countryside. As a result of this work the face of our cities and villages is changing and improving the life quality of the people.

According to the program of support of young people, young families receive apartments in buildings “Kamolot” which are a great help in finding a worthy place in life and upbringing children with harmoniously developed personality.

In the days of Navruz the inherent qualities of our people, as kindness, mercy, magnanimity and generosity become more stronger. All people visit each other, promote the health of patients. Venerable aksakals and mothers are under special attention and honor.

The announcement of 2015 as the Year of Attention and Care for the Older Generation on the initiative of the President of our country further increased the efficiency of work on the provision of respect and honor for the elder people, moral and material support to the veterans, strengthening their health, creating them even more convenience.

The amount of pension is increased by more than 20 percent for the purpose of financial support of the older generation. Pay rise of 100 percent of the minimum wage to the pensions of centenarians who reached 100 years of age, are introduced. Participants of the Second World War and the rear of the front received free treatment in sanatoria and health resorts.

… The children appear on the scene, and the square is filled with their joyful laughter. Merry songs and fiery dances even more raise the festive mood.

These are children who were born in the years of independence, using the special attention and care of the state grow up healthy and strong. In Uzbekistan, the idea that our children should be a stronger, better educated, wiser, and certainly happier than us, is set as a priority.

Under the guidance of President of our country in the first years of independence, special attention was paid to the upbringing of healthy generation, and this noble work continues sequentially. All conditions for strengthening maternal health, birth and formation of healthy children have been creating. Reforms on the improvement of the quality of life, the enhancement of health systems, the development of children’s sports serve these high goals.

Upbringing of our young people as inferior to no one is also reflected in international competitions and contests. Last year alone, our athletes participated in 165 international competitions and won 983 medals. Young musicians and artists got 137 prizes at prestigious international competitions.

On the initiative our President 2016 was declared as the Year of a Healthy Mother and Healthy Child in our country, and this serves as yet another clear proof of special attention to this area.

… Classical music sounds over the square. Opera arias and ballet numbers, songs performed in different languages rejoice participants of the festival and foreign guests.

– Navruz is celebrated in Uzbekistan with great festive and joy, – said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to our country Fumihiko Kato. – It is noteworthy that your national traditions are perceived with great pride by the people, especially the youth. We were very pleased with the consistent development of cooperation between our countries in all spheres in the spirit of friendship and mutual trust on mutually beneficial basis. Taking this opportunity, I congratulate the people of Uzbekistan on Navruz!

… Festive celebration is in full swing. National game Ulak-Kupkari, rope-walker performances, tug-of-war games, competitions of wrestlers, weight lifting contests and a lot more are demonstrated on the monitor. Singers of lapars (national folk song) and national storytellers wish good luck to the farmers and sing about Navruz and the nature.

As a result of the development of market relations in agriculture, empowerment farmers’ movement the high yield is achieved annually. Last year, our country took more than 7.5 million tons of grain, more than 3 million 350 thousand tons of cotton, about 14 million 500 thousand tons of vegetables and melons, 4.3 million tonnes of horticultural products. Therefore, during winter and summer there are abundance and price stability in our markets.

In our country, the export of finished industrial, textile, agriculture, including fruit and vegetables, products increases every year.

– Navruz – a wonderful holiday, – said Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Germany to Uzbekistan Naythart Höfer-Wissing. – These celebrations give people joy, strengthen the atmosphere of harmony, unity, kindness and mercy. Participating in this festival we are also meet with representatives of various professions, foreign guests, and colleagues, watch the festive program with great pleasure. Upbeat mood in celebration, the joy in people’s eyes are evidence of well-being, prosperity, peace and quiet life in your country.

In the days of Navruz people feel even sharper themselves as an integral part of nature, are deeply aware of the need to protect the natural world, his native land, the current peaceful life.

Since ancient times our people have been prepared for the celebrations and holidays with a special mood and spirit of creation. Our ancestors met Navruz with pure thoughts and good hopes. After all, wh ere cleanliness and order are, there will be sufficiency, health and prosperity.

This year, as always, work on landscaping and gardening is started from the very first days of spring. During the last 12-13th of March in a national charity hashar throughout the country the mahallas and streets, alleys and landscaped parks, business areas and organizations were put in order. Places of worship and cemeteries were cleaned, and flower seedlings, fruit and ornamental trees were planted. The people visited low-income families, single elderly, people with disabilities and helped in the household works, holiday gifts were presented.

On the eve of the holiday enterprises, medical and educational institutions, service centers are put in commissioned. These objects multiply the beauty of our country, serve to further improve the level and quality of our fellow citizens life.

– Attending at the celebration of Navruz, I am convinced again that under the leadership of the President, our country is developing dynamically, the lives of our countrymen are improving, their world is changing – says private entrepreneur of the Namangan region Gani Umarov. – It is clearly felt in the spirit of today’s celebrations and in a joyful mood of people. We thank for those bright and happy days. Let always in our country peace and tranquility, and our lives be better and well-maintained.

… Festive show is still in full swing. Cheerful songs performed by artists and hot dances excite the heart.

The exhibition of products of folk artists and craftsmen indicates the richness of our cultural heritage and a continuation of centuries-old traditions, and this evokes a feeling of pride and admiration.

Navruz celebrations were broadcasted via satellites in dozens of countries around the world, and with the help of the Internet people in all corners of the planet were able to watch it.

Sounds of lyrics and melodies in the square are spread to all corners of our country, the atmosphere of high festive spirit reigns everywhere.

Celebrations, festivals and sayils (outdoor fete) continue in all the cities and villages of our homeland.

For all of us the world of Navruz is the Oriental New Year with history of several millennia, which traces back with its roots to the period of «Avesto», the ancient and truly national holiday – far from any politics, when the day equals the night. This is our most beloved and most beautiful festival of spring, which has deeply penetrated to the nature of our nation and people, their mind and mentality, heart and consciousness.

It is exactly in this unmatched and captivating season, when the breath of greenery and fine breeze arrive, and the sprouts blossom, we feel as if the song of spring flows into the human soul and being. All of us feel ourselves rejuvenated and filled with strength and power, inspiration and courage. Shortly speaking, we feel ourselves to be an inalienable and inseparable part of nature.

There is no doubt that one can see and witness these joyous events, public fêtes and performances in the most of households and makhallas (neighborhood community areas), capital city, as well as far and remote villages.

I will speak the truth, if I say that no one will remain indifferent that our people, irrespective of their nationality and ethnicity, indulge in festive mood and spend this wonderful holiday with profound joy and bliss. And they congratulate on such an occasion not only the people they know, but also those they don’t know by embracing and wishing them a sound health, happiness, prosperity and good luck.

Availing myself of these moments as well, I would like to express my sincere wishes, love and esteem to you, my dears, who have gathered in this sublime and beautiful square, and our entire nation, by addressing with the sacred words of our ancestor Alisher Navoi: «Happy Navruz to all of you, let your each day be Navruz!».

Dear friends!

The immortal spirit and values of Navruz are carefully passed from generation to generation. No matter how many years and epochs pass by, these very idea and customs are still nowadays leaving a deep trace and becoming stronger in the mentality and consciousness of our people.

In this respect, I want to bring some examples.

It is well-known from our millennia-old history: in the season of Navruz various discords and enmities, resentments and quarrels are forgotten, such humane feelings as mercy and clemency, compassion and generosity become stronger among people, nations and ethnicities.

In this regard, let us imagine: if we return to preventing the tensions, conflicts and confrontations ever aggravating now in the international arena, and still ongoing bloodshed, as well as resolving the emerging problems only by way of peace and political negotiations –speaking with our people’s words – the world would be a perfect place to live.

I am confident that in these days on the eve of the Oriental New Year, if someone asks our time-tested, kind-hearted and compassionate people, who endured so many hardships and always preserve virtue and mercy in the depth of their hearts, about their most sincere wishes in the coming year – the answer, without any doubt, will be certain: we need peace and prosperity.

The reason and roots of such unity can be seen, above all, in our ancient history, multifaceted great culture, invaluable heritage left by our great scientists and thinkers, who greatly contributed to the progress of human civilization, and in the fact that for many centuries our Homeland has been the center of spirituality and enlightenment.

All these phenomena have been passed through the centuries from generation to generation, enriched and eventually turned into kind human ideas, laid a solid foundation for spiritual worldview and practical guideline of our people.

Naturally, our nation, who has such noble and rare features and qualities, lives with pure dreams and aspirations, strives for peace and prosperity, wishes for clear and blue sky, no doubt, will build its relations with near and far neighbors on the basis of mutual respect, friendship and accord, consideration of mutual interests. And our nation regards safeguarding our country and people from any evils and threats as its priority task.

In these joyous moments, on your behalf and on behalf of our entire nation, allow me to congratulate on the holiday of Navruz, express sincere respect and wholeheartedly welcome the ambassadors of foreign countries, representatives of international organizations, foreign partners and all our dear guests who are showing their profound esteem to us and participating at our Navruz festivities in this beautiful square.

Dear compatriots!

Welcoming you, my dears who have gathered today in this sublime square, I see in your person, above all, our humble, generous and big-hearted people, who are greatly contributing by their courageous work and steadfastness to make Uzbekistan more prosperous and flourishing, who are making the world community surprised by their accomplishments and achievements. Standing on this high rostrum, I bow low before and render homage to our people, who feature such noble qualities.

Addressing the Uzbekistan’s youth, who are our support and buttress, I would like to say: the severely changing time that we experience and which is becoming more complicated puts forward before all of us the following tasks: first of all, my dear children, you are required to thoroughly master the modern knowledge and professions, utilize the intellectual wealth. Along with this, the time requires to take the competitiveness of our country in the international arena to a new level, continue modernization and diversification of our economy, and turn it into a locomotive of our progress.

Along the path of achieving these very great objectives, I believe that you, my dears, are able to justify the confidence of our people and Motherland, and I stand ready to always support all of you.

My dear fellow countrymen!

On this radiant and magnificent occasion, from the bottom of my heart I once again congratulate all of you on the holiday of Navruz.

Let Navruz bring peace and tranquility, love and mercy, happiness, bliss and abundance to each and every family, household and our entire country!

Let all our dreams and aspirations come true!

Happy Navruz to all of us!
