It was noted that the main financial document of the country during the reporting period was executed in accordance with the parameters approved by the parliament, as well as priorities of the socioeconomic development of the country in 2011, defined by President Islam Karimov at the Cabinet of Ministers session on 21 January.

Despite the negative impact of the global financial crisis, the government has been able to maintain steady economic growth and macroeconomic stability in the first half of the year. As a result, strong growth was registered in all spheres of economy, including industrial production, agriculture, retail trade and services. GDP growth made up 8%. State budget was executed with a surplus.

The program of creating new workplaces and employment for 2011, approved by the parliament, is being successfully implemented. A particular attention is paid to employment of graduates of professional colleges. High quality and durable cotton fiber

September 13, 2011

Soil and climatic conditions of Uzbekistan allow grow a lot of quickly adapting, medium-and fine-stapled cotton varieties with the necessary agro indicators. So, scientists in our country are working hard to bring to life the latest developments in genetics, breeding, cotton seed growing and further empowerment of Uzbekistan in this direction by adapting new varieties of cotton to the local soil and climatic conditions.

As a result of this research, the research fellows of the Institute of Genetics and Plant Experimental Biology, Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, created high-yielding and disease resistant varieties of wilt with a strong fiber, and high oil content in seeds “Mehnat,” “AN-Boevut-2,” “AN-513,”

“Kupaysin,”“UzFA-703,” “Kelajak,” “Gulbahor,” “Beshkahramon,” “AN-16” of which today rich and quality crop is received.

Institute scientists N. Gubanova, Y. Juraev, Z. Sodikova and N. Sanaev, using samples of different varieties of cotton in 2009, created resistant to drought and saline soils new varieties of “Navbahor-2” and in 2010 – “Gulbahor-2.” They were introduced to national register of crop plants as promising varieties.

“Class “Gulbahor-2” is midseason with boxes which are disclosed in regular intervals,” scientist N. Gubanova, PhD. “Because of the resistance to drought and salinity, as compared with other varieties, it saves water by 35-40%. In future, this sort, featuring high yield fibers, will grow at 20,000 hectares in Syrdarya region. This year it is grown on 6,000 hectares.”

The fourth and fifth types of cotton are highly valued in the textile industry of the world. The promising cultivar “Navbahor-2” featuring snow white fiber refers to the fourth type, with fiber yield of over 40%. The current used type of it amounts 33%.

This current sort made especially for Syrdarya and Jizzakh regions, has been grown for several years at nearly 6,000 ha. Designed specifically for saline soil with water scarcity, this variety is well suited to desert environment, the buds do not fall off even during dehydration of cotton. The plant bears fruit quickly and evenly.

“In hot weather, like this year, fruits of cotton yield had often crumbled, reducing productivity,” said the head of elite seed farm “Amir Temur” of Syrdarya district Nigmat Rahmatillaev. “Since we have cultivated “Navbahor-2” it has completely preserved fruit. At present, the weight of cotton in a box can be up to seven grams. In other varieties – about 3 grams. Last year we grew this strain on one hectare and received more than 55 quintals of yield. This year, we grow it on 35 ha.

As a result of such activities carried out by the introduction of innovations in science, the price of Uzbek cotton is increasing in the global market from year to year. This can be seen on the example of the traditional International Uzbek Cotton Fair, which facilitates the development of cotton industry and further enhances the export potential of our country.

Foreign ambassadors hand credentials to President

September 10, 2011

President Islam Karimov on September 9 at the Oqsaroy received credentials from newly appointed Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in the Republic of Uzbekistan – Yurai Sivacek of the Slovak Republic, Abdurahman bin Abdullah bin Abdurahman al-Shaeh of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Anumula Gitesh Sarma of the Republic of India, and Riccardo Manara of the Italian Republic.

The head of Uzbek state noted that the interaction with the abovementioned countries has been dynamically advancing, and wished the diplomats every success in their commencing responsible and honorable mission.

Slovakia is viewed in Uzbekistan as one of important and enduring partners in Eastern Europe and European Union in general.

Foundations of bilateral relations were embedded during Uzbek President’s January 1997 official visit to Slovakia. A remarkable experience of interaction in many spheres has been built between the two nations, along with a robust normative and agreement base encompassing more than twenty bilateral documents.

The interest of the two countries in shoring up trade and economic and investment cooperation that can substantially be fostered by cashing in the existing capacities has been underscored during the meeting of President and the Ambassador following the credentials ceremony.

Importance of promoting contacts in cultural sphere, environment protection, healthcare, tourism, science and education was also stressed during the conversation.

In his turn, Yurai Sivacek has said that he sees his principal task as facilitating further consolidation of equally advantageous bonds between the two nations.
Relations between the peoples of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia are built on ages-old friendship and principles of confidence and mutual understanding. These factors constitute a solid foundation of contemporary interstate ties.

The two sides’ approaches to the majority of pressing issues of international and regional nature are similar. Our countries cooperate within the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Cooperation Council of Arab States of the Persian Gulf and other international institutions.

Trade-economic and cultural and humanitarian spheres, where both parties wield tremendous capacities, are priority dimensions of bilateral interaction.

Common interest in boosting cooperation in financial, investment and other areas has been noted during the meeting at the Oqsaroy. In particular, Uzbekistan highly appreciates its partnership with Saudi Development Fund, which has participated in implementing a range of major projects in our country.

The new ambassador has assured that he considers his mission in Uzbekistan a good opportunity for intensification of relations between the two nations in all areas of shared interest.

During the tête-à-tête with India’s ambassador it has been noted that the state visit by President Islam Karimov to New Delhi that took place May 17-18 this year helped step up the bilateral cooperation to the level of strategic partnership. A significant package of documents signed during the visit, including economic agreements worth 2.2 billion US dollars, demonstrated the resolution of both countries to keep forward with expanding mutually favorable relations.

The two sides attach considerable magnitude to advancing comprehensive interstate interaction. The most favorable trade regime operates between Uzbekistan and India; an intergovernmental commission for coordination of trade-economic and investment cooperation issues has been functioning.

The mutual interest in enhancing Indian investments in information technologies, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, biotechnologies, textiles, chemical industry of Uzbekistan has been emphasized during the meeting.

Anumula Gitesh Sarma has suggested that he is greatly honored to represent his country in Uzbekistan, the people of which is close to that of India spiritually, mentality and national character, and pledged to make the best of his efforts for Uzbek-Indian cooperation to steadily press forward.

Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Italy has currently been dynamically progressing in political, trade-economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian realms.

Italy is renowned in Uzbekistan predominantly as a nation playing an important role in international politics. The two countries have accumulated an extensive experience of interaction in diverse areas. An imposing number of bilateral agreements work currently to cover basically the entire specter of Uzbek-Italian relations.

The successful functioning of Turin Polytechnic Institute in Tashkent that trains highly qualified specialists for the growing automotive industry of Uzbekistan has been referred to with pleasure during the meeting at the Oqsaroy.

Mutually rewarding is attraction of Italian investments and high technologies to the process of wide-scale modernization of our country and that of setting up new enterprises in light industry, car manufacturing, energy, construction and other vital sectors of economy in Uzbekistan, including in Navoi FIEZ.

Riccardo Manara suggested that both Italy and Uzbekistan have all the capacities for effective development of interaction. For this objective to materialize, the ambassador said he is willing to make every effort and abilities as the new head of diplomatic mission of his country.
