Delegation of Uzbekistan led by Deputy Prime Minister A.Abdukhakimov attended the 42nd session of the UN World Heritage Committee, in Manama (Bahrain). The issue of excluding the Historical Center of Shakhrisabz from the UNESCO World Heritage List was on the agenda.
The Head of the delegation of Uzbekistan in his speech noted that activity carried out in the Historical Center of Shakhrisabz was aimed at improving the living standards of the local population. Members of the Committee also got acquainted with the adopted decision of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the protection of World Heritage Sites in Uzbekistan”, where the roadmap indicating the timing of implementation of recommendations of the World Heritage Committee is indicated.
As reported by the Press Service of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Tourism Development, following the debates between the committee members, it was decided to create a working group on development of an alternative draft decision of the World Heritage Committee, which provides for the preservation of the Historical Center of Shahrisabz in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
