October 5, 2016, the Ministry of labour of the Republic of Uzbekistan held negotiations with the delegation of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) led by its President Kim In Shik. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan Kwon Yong Woo, Director of “Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd.” Office in Uzbekistan Song Dong Joon.
At the meeting, the Labour Minister Aziz Abduhakimov thanked our Korean partners for mutually beneficial and practical cooperation, noting that realized and implemented with Korean companies joint projects are yielding concrete results in the form of modern and high-paying jobs and employment for citizens of our Republic established in the economy of Uzbekistan.
The employment of the population, especially youth and women, are one of the priority areas of the Programme of social-economic development of the country, established by the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, and they always remain in the center of attention of the Government of Uzbekistan.
For the purposes of training and retraining of unemployed persons, unemployed population, graduates of educational establishments according to modern professions (specialties) demanded by the labor market, the Ministry of labor of the Republic of Uzbekistan jointly with KOICA successfully implement the project “Development of training opportunities in Uzbekistan”, under which vocational training centers are established in different regions of the country.
Vocational training center in Tashkent was among the first in this direction, established in 2012 under the gratuitous grant assistance of the Government of the Republic of Korea. Some 2 thousand young people have already passed professional training at this center and have successfully employed at demanded and highly paid jobs.
Another center was put into commission in late August in the city of Samarkand, and already on 26 September 2016 admitted its first 240 students. This vocational training center is also equipped with the most modern teaching and laboratory equipment, practical aids, is focused on the training and retraining of specialists in the following in demand in the labor market areas:
– diagnostics, repair and maintenance of vehicles;
– technology of engineering production and welding work;
– electronics and electrical engineering;
– information systems and technology.
The graduates of these centers after completion of training are fully employed in accordance with the received specialty in accordance with the concluded contracts with certain companies.
The distinctiveness of the training in these centers is that training programs and training plans for the sel ected areas are developed in a completely new way, taking into account international best practices and are based on the requirements of state educational standards.
The selection of teachers and trainers in the centers fr om among the teachers of universities and colleges is held with the participation of professors of the leading technical universities of the Republic of Korea. The part of qualified teachers and masters passed training at the University of professional training and technology in South Korea.
At the meeting, the President of KOICA Kim In Shik gave a high assessment to trends of socio-economic development of Uzbekistan, noted the close cooperation of KOICA with the Ministry of labor of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which will continue to develop in 2017-2019. In accordance with the Intergovernmental agreement, work has started on the establishment of training centers in the city of Shakhrisabz, in the cities of Urgench and Kokand.
Following the meeting, the Ministry of labor of the Republic of Uzbekistan, “Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd.” and KOICA signed a Memorandum of understanding, which provides for cooperation in the field of organization of industrial practice for students and employment of graduates of vocational training centers at industrial enterprises of “Hyundai Engineering”, development and introduction of modern teaching aids and programmes, exchanging experiences and information related to vocational training, attracting human and material resources to ensure the efficient operation of vocational training centres.
