President of the European Council Donald Tusk, within the framework of his working visit to Uzbekistan, took part in the presentation of the Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea Region dedicated to elimination of problems related to the drying up of the Aral Sea.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, addressing the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, drew the attention of its participants to many pressing issues of global importance, in particular, emphasized the particular danger of the Aral crisis for the population of not only Uzbekistan, but the entire region. On November 27, 2018, a high-level event was held at the UN headquarters in New York on launching the United Nations Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea Region in Uzbekistan.
Presentation was held on the goals and objectives of this fund, its program and operational activities, as well as measures taken to establish and develop partnership in this context.
On April 1 this year, the Standard Agreement was signed between the Government of Norway and the office of this fund, according to which Norway became the first donor to contribute to the fund.
At the moment, Japan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and a number of other donor countries are also showing interest in participating in the fund.
