15 bn soms to be allocated for nongovernmental non-profit organizations in 2018

In the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the democratic institutions, nongovernmental organizations and people’s self-governing bodies committee has held a news conference on results of work in 2017 and future tasks.

6 laws were to be drafted as part of the committee’s work last year. Actually, 12 laws were drawn up and adopted.

9 of these adopted laws had been drawn up by members of the committee exercising their right of legislative initiative. Among these are new editions of laws on representative for protecting the rights and legitimate interests of entrepreneurial entities, on public control, on human rights commissioner (ombudsman) and on appeals of individuals and corporate bodies.

In 2017, the committee’s members filed 46 parliamentary inquiries with official bodies of state administration about problems that people had been faced with and about shortcomings in the implementation of laws.

15 bn soms are to be allocated for nongovernmental non-profit organizations in 2018. Most of the funds are to be allocated as grants.
