A briefing for the mass media representatives was held at the Single press center for covering up the elections to the district Kengashes of people’s deputies of the city of Tashkent.
At the briefing, the chairman of Tashkent city election commission Kh.Karimov informed that today 885 polling stations have been opened for voting at 6:00 am in the city.
In accordance with the electoral legislation of our country, all political parties and civil society institutions participating in the elections have nominated one candidate to 330 electoral districts, organized in 11 districts of Tashkent. 330 deputies will be elected out of 1 650 candidates to district Kengashes of the city of Tashkent.
At the briefing, it was noted that citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan are demonstrating political activity in the elections. Over 334 thousand out of more than 1 million 560 thousand voters included in the lists have already voted by 1 pm Tashkent time. This is 20,4 percent of their total number.
In accordance with the Article 41 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On elections to regional, district, city Kengashes of people’s deputies”, a candidate for deputy who has received more than half of the votes of voters, who took part in the voting, is considered elected. Elections are recognized as valid only in those districts, where more than 33 percent of voters voted.
Chairman of Tashkent City Electoral Commission reported that the next briefing on informing the general public about the voting process will be held at 5 pm.
