In Navoi, the regional phase of the “Young book lover” contest has taken place at the initiative of the Navoi regional council of the Uzbekistan youth union.

About 27 thousand book lovers participated in the district and town phases of the contest.

In this country, consistent systemic work is being carried out to bring up the younger generation to develop harmoniously and to raise their book-reading culture.

A Presidential decree dated 12 January 2017 “On establishing a commission for the popularization of reading and the raising of book-reading culture and for the development of the system of publishing and distributing books” is an important programme document in this sphere.

The contest was arranged among 14-19 year-old students of general education schools, academic lyceums and vocational colleges and among students and teachers and not unionised young people aged between 20 and 30.

In the regional phase of the contest, 20 book lovers had their knowledge tested in such areas as “socio-political sphere”, “prose” and “poetry”.

A 9-grade student of general education school No 23 in Qiziltepa district, Aziza Haydarova, and a teacher of academic lyceum No 2 under the Navoi state ore extraction institute, Maftuna Ochilova, achieved first place.

The winners will be participating in the republican phase of the contest.
