The 7th National Fair of Innovation Ideas, Technologies and Projects has opened in Tashkent
The prospects of innovational development in Uzbekistan have been expanding from one year to another. The dynamic use of achievements of the contemporary science, creation of new technologies, innovation products facilitate the intensification of the process of modernization, technical and technological re-equipment of production and the amplification of the production of goods competitive at both domestic and external markets.
It has been seven years that academics, manufacturers, farmers and young innovation makers meet at the National Fair of Innovation Ideas, Technologies and Projects organized by the Committee for the Coordination of Scientific and Technological Development under the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministries of Economy and the Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The traditional fair is extensively attended by ministries and other government agencies, banks, enterprises of all sectors of the economy, including the representatives of small business and private entrepreneurship, farmer enterprises, research institutions of the Academy of Sciences, higher education institutions.
President of Uzbekistan’s Academy of Sciences Sh.Salikhov noted that the scales of scientific and research works, protection and further development of intellectual property, introduction of innovations into the production process, production of export oriented goods, saving the natural resources, consolidation of environmental stability have been enhancing constantly in the country. These are facilitated by resolutions of the President of Uzbekistan “On Additional Measures to Encourage the Introduction of Innovation Projects and Technologies into the Production Process” signed 15 July 2008, “On Priorities in the Development of Manufacturing Industry in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2011-2015” penned 15 December 2010.
The considerable economic effect is indicative by the outcomes of previous six fairs of innovation ideas, technologies and projects. In general, 1,945 agreements were signed on the introduction of scientific and technological innovations totaling the nearly 60 billion soums. Those deals served as a basis for the introduction of more than 300 new technologies, the arrangement of serial production of goods of more than 20 titles, the production of 20 samples of industrial and 49 samples of research-experimental products.
In the past, new technologies used to be procured by and large abroad, whereas today the innovation fairs prove for the definite that Uzbekistan’s scientific potential is pretty high and that the domestic innovations are not only not inferior to foreign counterparts, but also even surpass them in many indicators.
It is noteworthy that every year the organizers of the fair come up with higher requirements with regard to innovation makers, namely, that all the proposed projects should be ready for the introduction into practice, should contain export oriented and import substituting technologies that would allow for the creation of new materials with assigned qualities geared to international standards.
These and many other criteria are met also in the current fair. From among the 611 applications received from scientific, educational, construction organizations and individual innovators, 494 were shortlisted. Notably, 171 innovations, ideas and projects are dedicated to the promotion of manufacturing industry, 127 such developments are directed at boosting the agriculture, while 53 to bolstering healthcare and pharmacology, and 30 projects are aimed at augmenting the ICT sphere.
Distinctive feature of the current fair is the extensive participation of young scholars, PhD students, higher education institution students and senior students of professional colleges and academic lyceums in it. It is noteworthy that the majority of innovations this year is exposed by institutions of the system of higher and secondary special education of the country. In addition, another 55 innovation projects are presented by students and young academics.
Among the intellectual products of practically all higher education institutions of the nation demonstrated at the fair, the stands of technical orientation universities are particularly appealing. Loads of promising projects is offered, for instance, by the Abu Rayhon Beruni Tashkent State Technical University. Among the most interesting are the mobile phone with a transparent two-sided screen that is charged with solar power, the microprocessor instrument to measure the dust content of the atmosphere, the contactless smoke meter for the definition of the quantity of carbon in the content of exhausts, the electronic digital counter of bottles and a number of other inventions.
Students of Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent present their ideas, projects and innovations in such areas as technologies in machine building, energy sector, industrial civic construction and architecture, information technologies and automated systems of management in the manufacturing industry. To this end, the fourth-year student Maruf Mukarramov presents the visitors of the fair with a mockup automated selection system ARM. This robot device that helps sort out various details can in the future be introduced into the machine-building and automotive sector, facilitating an even greater automation of the working process and minimization in the use of human resources.
“I got interested in mechanical engineering and automation of this process as far back as my student years at the Navoi Professional College of Computer Technologies,” Mukarramov says. “While a student at Turin Polytechnic University, I got an opportunity to multiply my knowledge and develop abilities, because the education institution has everything needed for that. I dream of creating cutting-edge technologies that will be in great demand in our country.”
The fair has many participants who represent the healthcare and pharmacology sphere. The innovations being demonstrated by them are suggestive of the comprehensive development of medicine and serve for the perfection of economic and technical capacities of treatment institutions and the expansion in the scale of medical service of the population. For example, the research fellows of the faculty of hospital and optional surgery at the Andijan State Medical Institute have earned 18 patents for their inventions. Four of them are authored by the young scholar and lecturer of the Institute, the doctoral student Muhammadyahyo Teshaboev. He has developed new methods of surgical rehabilitation of those suffering the consequences of burns on the face, which are superior to traditional approaches to plastic surgery with their simplicity and effectiveness.
In the last years, the fair organizers have placed a great emphasis on such a direction as the use of alternative power sources – the most pressing and promising in the energy sector development. A policy document for this is the decree of the head of our state “On Measures to Further Develop Alternative Sources of Energy” signed 1 March 2013.
A traditionally extensive exposition has been deployed by the Physics-Technical Institute of the “Physics-Sun” Scientific Production Association under the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, whose stands present diversified photoelectric devices for various sectors of the economy. In particular, the attention of visitors is drawn to the autonomous mobile multifunction photoelectric system that is capable of supplying power to facilities remote from centralized sources of energy. According to the senior research fellow of the institute Khabibulla Sabirov, this device allows for the generation of electric power up to 30 kilowatt/hour a day. For the transportation of the system, a specialized wheel vehicle is used on the basis of tractor trailers, which will allow it to work even in difficult-access areas.
Also, participating in the fair with their respective innovations in the sphere of alternative sources of power are the Center of Technologies of Communication and Clean Energy of the ATETM Ltd. who has presented autonomous solar and solar-wind power stations for communication facilities, the Andijan State University who exposes light-emitting diode lightener with a photoelectric system of energy supply, the Karshi Engineering and Economic Institute who demonstrates the opportunities of solar device for desalination of water.
In general, the fair grants an opportunity to not only reach deals for the introduction of new technologies, but also familiarize the manufacturers with new ideas and projects. These will be facilitated by the seminars being organized as part of the fair to address issues of the perfection of information supply of innovation activities, of prospects in the development of alternative energy sector, of the expansion in attracting the young scholars and students to the innovation activities.
As the tradition goes, the industrial enterprises of our country are to come up with their respective presentations on the effectiveness of introduction of innovation ideas, technologies and projects into the production process and tell about the demands in novel innovations.
It is noteworthy that as soon as on the first day of the fair, enterprises and innovation project developers concluded more than fifty agreements for the commercial introduction or procurement of science-intensive products and technologies for more than 1.2 billion soums. The majority of such projects is expected to secure a grand economic effect in the future.
