The Samarkand regional round of sporting competitions in artistic gymnastics among girls aged 7-14 has taken place in the province’s central city.

Around 100 athletes who had been victorious in district and city rounds of competitions took part in the contest organized by the regional prosecutor’s office, the commission for the affairs of minors, the department of public education and the regional branch of the Fund for the Development of Children’s Sports as to execute the presidential resolution on additional measures to implement the youth policy in the Republic of Uzbekistan signed 6 February of the current year.

In recent years, in excess of 100 gyms and 25 sports complexes have been built and commissioned along with more than 20 complexes been reconstructed in Samarkand region for the moneys of the Fund for the Development of Children’s Sports. As a result, more than 266 thousand schoolchildren of public education institutions, in excess of 120 thousand of them girls, have been regular in sports. Today, artistic gymnastics clubs are attended regularly by more than 5 thousand girls.

“I have been into gymnastics since I was five,” says Salima Ibrahimova, pupil of the children’s and youth’s sports school no.2 in Narpai district. “I have taken part in numerous competitions in the past years and made new friends. Going into sports helped boost my health.”

The contest’s victors and prize winners have been accordingly rewarded by the organizers. Also, festive gifts were handed to a group of gymnasts of the region who have displayed remarkable achievements in nationwide and international tournaments in the field.
