A NEW STAGE IN DEVELOPMENT OF INTERETHNIC RELATIONS IN UZBEKISTAN

The Committee on interethnic relations and friendly ties with foreign countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan conducted a scientific practical conference on “Uzbekistan: a new stage in development of interethnic relations”.

The conference was devoted to the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and was organized jointly with the Committee on international affairs and inter-parliamentary relations of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National centre for human rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan. It was attended by representatives of national cultural centers, friendship societies, and other public organizations.

It was emphasized that the Constitution of our country provides equality to all citizens, regardless of their race, gender, religious affiliation. By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of May 19, 2017 “On measures of further improvement of interethnic relations and friendly ties with foreign countries”, the Committee on interethnic relations and friendly ties with foreign countries was established under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the basis of the Republican international cultural center.

Director of the National centre for human rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the Committee on democratic institutions, NGOs and civil society institutions of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis A.Saidov told about the history of writing the Basic Law of our country, as well as drew attention to the fact that this year the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief of the UN Human Rights Council Ahmed Shaheed visited Uzbekistan, appreciated the achievements of Uzbekistan in the sphere of interethnic harmony and tolerance.

Reports on “The role and place of principles of tolerance in the public life of Uzbekistan”, “The process of development of interethnic relations and issues of tolerance in independent Uzbekistan”, “Issues of tolerance in the era of globalization and information civilization” were addressed by doctor of historical sciences, professor Rakhbar Murtazayeva, member of the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Kodir Jurayev, head of department of the Committee on interethnic relations and friendly ties with foreign countries under the Cabinet of Ministers Republic of Uzbekistan B.Karimov.

Speakers noted that the principles enshrined in the Constitution of Uzbekistan are of particular importance for further strengthening interethnic harmony and stability in society. The Strategy of actions on five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021, adopted at the initiative of the President of our country Shavkat Mirziyoyev, plays an important role in further strengthening interethnic harmony.

At the conference, issues of further increasing the effectiveness of activities of national cultural centers and friendship societies were discussed, recommendations were given on addressing current issues.

The State Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan R.Komilov attended the conference.
