On April 27, 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
The sides discussed the state and prospects of strengthening Uzbekistan – Pakistan cooperation in various fields.
As it was emphasized, in recent years, relations between Uzbekistan and Pakistan have noticeably intensified. Fruitful meetings were held at the highest level, contacts of businesspeople became more intensive and effective, exchanges are being developed in military and military-technical fields, as well as in cultural and humanitarian sphere.
At the meeting, the results of the high-level international conference on Afghanistan “Peace process, security cooperation and regional connectivity”, held on March 26-27, 2018 in Tashkent at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, were highly appreciated.
It was stated that settlement of the Afghan problem would bring tangible benefits to all countries of the vast region, including Central Asia, stimulating construction of railways, highways, pipelines, development of regional and transregional trade.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of Uzbekistan – Pakistan agenda and specific international problems.
Ambassador of Pakistan Irfan Yusuf Shami took part at the meeting.
