The President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, in order to pay tribute to the memory of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on October 6, arrived in Samarkand. At the international airport of Samarkand, the Interim President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev met the high guest.
The President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Interim President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev laid flowers at the tomb of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and gave tribute to his memory.
The high guest visited the complex “Forumlar majmuasi” in Samarkand and expressed deep condolences to the wife of Islam Karimov Tatyana Karimova.
At the meeting held at the complex, Alexander Lukashenko said that Belarus considers Uzbekistan as the main economic partner in Central Asia. The cooperation between our countries is developing based on the principles of friendship and mutual interest. The Agreement on economic cooperation for 2008-2017 and its enforcement programme, signed between the governments is being implemented consistently.
Interim President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev expressed gratitude to President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko for the visit to our country in order to pay tribute to the memory of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov. He noted that friendly relations between our peoples will continue to consistently develop, and the cooperation between the two countries must raise to a new level.
The President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov had dedicated his entire career to serving his people, the prosperity of homeland, and today Uzbekistan is a country with a developed economy, having preserved peace and stability. In this difficult time after the passing of Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan has once again demonstrated its wisdom, high culture and cohesion. The high guest noted that visiting this holy land is an honor for him.
At the recent 71st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the participants honored the memory of Islam Karimov with a minute of silence, which is also a clear evidence of the international prestige of the First President of our country.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on issues of further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Belarus in various fields.
