Islam Karimov stressed that Uzbekistan contributed to the victory over fascism in World War II. From then living in the republic of 6,5 million people went to the front of 1,5 million. If we consider that killed about 500 thousand of our compatriots, thousands of missing, many returned crippled, it is not difficult to imagine what price had to be paid to the Uzbek people in this war.

Today, we are immensely grateful to remember the dedication and generosity of the people of Uzbekistan, who, overcoming all the troubles and hardships of the war years, shared the shelter and the last piece of bread with evacuees from the occupied territories more than a million people, including about two hundred thousand orphans, children and adolescents.

In order to perpetuate the memory of the victims and did not return from the war of our fellow citizens their names are inscribed in golden letters in the Book of memory installed throughout Uzbekistan.

As you know, in our country in 2015 was declared the Year of attention and care for the older generation, adopted the State program provides for the implementation of specific practical measures to strengthen targeted social protection and support for the elderly, above all, veterans of war and labor front, who have made a worthy contribution to the victory over fascism.

The most important thing today, the head of Uzbekistan, it is necessary to extract the lessons of this war – this carnage. No matter who or what was the cause of the outbreak of the war – the whole humanity sane one thing – to repeat such a war or start a new one, which if it is to start, will certainly be the next and, obviously, the last world war.
