Art and Culture Development Foundation launches an educational program at Uzbekistan’s National Pavilion in Venice

On 24-31 August, Venice will host lectures, roundtable discussions and an open film screening organized by the Foundation in the first National Pavilion of Uzbekistan at the International Architecture Biennale.

The organizers will host events called Mahalla Stories.

On August 24, the program will be opened by the ensemble of Uzbek traditional music on karnays and surnays “Shodiyona”. The musicians will perform classical Uzbek songs that were once performed at weddings and other celebrations in the mahalla.

Sessions will be held on Uzbekistan and the mahallas as a source of inspiration for artistic work, the context and historical background of the Sound ecology movement and the soundscape and field recording practices from the early 70’s till today.

The program of the event also includes an open screening of the film “Mahallada duv-duv gap” (The whole neighborhood is talking about it) at the Teatrino Palazzo Grassi cinema of an old palazzo in Venice and an open talk with Chloe Drieu (CNRS Researcher) and Saodat Ismailova (filmmaker and artist).
