A Festival of Traditional Textile “Atlas Bayrami” (Holiday of Atlas) will be held in Margilan on 10-12 September 2015.
The festival is organized by the Centre for the development of crafts in Margilan in close cooperation with Margilan city administration, the Republican Association “Hunarmand”, National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, DVV International in Uzbekistan and UNESCO Representative Office in Uzbekistan.
The main purpose of the festival is preservation, development and promotion of the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan, support the development of traditional crafts and improve the quality and design of handicraft products, particularly traditional textiles.
The festival will be attended by leading craftsmen of Uzbekistan, experts in the field of traditional crafts, representatives of local authorities and communities. Foreign guests, in particular, a group of leading experts on traditional Korean textiles and design and UNESCO Artist for Peace – textile artist Ms. Bibi Russell will also take part in the event.
The festival will include conference on actual issues of preserving and developing traditional textile in Uzbekistan, exhibition of traditional textile and skull-cap, trainings and master classes, etc.
On 12 September, it is planned to award masters and designers of Uzbekistan for their contribution to preserving and developing traditional crafts. The products of the participants will be assessed by jury, which will include national and international experts.
