Bektemir Keeps His Word

SPORT

sportsThe Uzbek boxer Bektemir Melikuziev has brought in another gold medal into the medal bank of our national team at the Second Youth Olympics in Nanjing.

Constant attention is being paid under the leadership of President Islam Karimov to the promotion of sports. As a result, a new generation of athletes capable of upholding the honor of our Motherland at the world arena with dignity has been growing. Achievements being made by our young athletes at the Second Youth Olympic Games are bright example for that.

Performing in the boxing ring of the Nanjing Olympics in the weight category of up to 69 kilograms, Bektemir Melikuziev in the semifinals sent Ilyas Adzinaev of Belarus to technical knockout. Having overwhelmed Juan Solano of the Dominican Republic in the final, 3-0, Bektemir rose to the highest podium of honor. The national flag of our country was raised and the state anthem of our Motherland was aired in honor of our athlete.

The Asia and world champion in boxing among youths, Bektemir Melikuziev promised to raise the flag of Uzbekistan high before leaving for Nanjing and to return with triumph. And, as it turned out, he has kept his word.

Thus, our young athletes in Nanjing have earned four gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
