British Officials Visit Uzbekistan

Sayeeda Warsi, Senior Minister of Sate for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom, held talks April 16 in the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis.

It was noted in particular during the negotiations that Uzbekistan and Great Britain have steadily been advancing the mutual cooperation across diverse spheres, including parliamentarianism, and that the two nations are equally interested in the further enhancement of this interaction.

The Memorandum on Understanding signed between the Oliy Majlis Group for the Cooperation with the British Parliament and the latter’s Britain-Uzbekistan All-Party Group has been facilitating the further consolidation of interaction in the parliamentary sphere, expansion of political, economic and social ties.

The two sides discussed issues concerning the further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation between our two countries, and pointed out to the mounting role of the legislature in the advancement of society.

“Wide-ranging reforms have been underway in Uzbekistan to promote democratization and civil society,” Baroness Warsi said in particular. “The United Kingdom advocates a dynamic exchange of expertise with Uzbekistan on this front.”

The British officials also held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
