Drawing of direct foreign investments and development of free economic zones ranks among main goals of the economic section of the Actions Strategy for five priority development areas of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021. A new plant of industrial metalware will be built as part of implementation of abovementioned goals in the current year with the participation of a leading company of Turkey.

A memorandum of establishment of a new industrial facility on the territory of the free economic zone Angren was signed in late February 2017, during the visit of the Uzbek delegation to Istanbul.

The preliminary cost of the project is about $10 million. Turkish investors – DAL Teknik Makina company – have already studied the territory of the zone and selected a site in the Akhangaran industrial block on a total area of about 6 hectares. Specialists are currently preparing the package of documents for consideration by the members of the Administrative Council.

The parties intend to complete the project by the end of 2017. According to experts, the launch of the new manufacture would significantly reduce imports of ready-made metal structures for industrial purposes, and create about 100 new jobs.

Last year, the Angren SEZ disbursed $56.7 million of investments, with 6.1 percent increase YOY. During the reported period, seven new production facilities were commissioned. Industrial products were produced for 929 billion soums, which is 45.6% more YOY.

Works on the commissioning of nine new production facilities, which will specialize in leather processing, production of seamless steel pipes and fittings, electric hand drilling and grinding machines, decorative ceramic tiles and sanitary faience, conveyor belts, agricultural and automobile tires, porcelain stoneware, electric pumps and other popular types of products will be continued in the current year.

The total preliminary cost of the abovementioned projects exceeds $300 million, including $40.3 million of foreign direct investments. After completion, all the projects promise creating additional 2,300 new jobs.
