On April 30, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with modernization of Tupalang Hydroelectric Power Station in Sariasiya district of Surkhandarya region.
Uzbekistan has great potential for development of hydropower. Efficient use of these opportunities and increasing energy generating facilities have become one of the important directions of economic development.
A program of measures for further development of hydropower in 2017-2021 was approved by the Resolution of the President of May 2, 2017. JSC Uzbekgidroenergo was organized by the decree of May 18, 2017. Tasks for the implementation of a unified technical policy in the industry, expansion of development of renewable energy sources, re-equipment of existing hydroelectric power stations and creation of new facilities based on modern technologies have been identified.
In accordance with this, the Tupalang Hydroelectric Power Station is also being modernized. Previously, two units with a capacity of 15 megawatts each operated here. By the order of the President, the height of the dam of Tupalang reservoir was increased by 20 meters. As a result, its capacity has been increased from 380 million to 500 million cubic meters. Work is underway on installing two more units with a total capacity of 145 megawatts.
In addition, small hydropower stations Zarchob-1 and Zarchob-2 are being built, each with a capacity of almost 38 megawatts. Thus, the total power output will be increased to 250 megawatts.
Hydropower resources are significant because they are a natural and renewable source of energy. Hydroelectric power stations allow stably producing electricity without harm to the environment and supplying it for the needs of industry and the public sector, agriculture and the population.
The Head of the state got acquainted with the new dam and hydroelectric power station.
– This is a historic event, – said Shavkat Mirziyoyev. – This is carried out for the sake of the future, for the sake of our children. In the future, thanks to hydropower, Surkhandarya will be able to fully cover the economy’s need for electricity.
A presentation of technical systems for monitoring the status of reservoirs and ensuring their safety was also held here.
The President gave instructions on strengthening the dams and continuous control over their safety, improving the efficiency of operation of reservoirs based on scientific developments.
