An international roundtable discussion entitled “Legal culture as an important condition for shaping up a constitutional democratic state and civil society” has been held in Tashkent.
Such issues as the enhancement of legal culture in the society, delivery of adopted laws to the attention of the population, establishment of an effective parliamentary and public control over their observance, and study of the national and foreign best practices in this sphere were discussed at the forum.
The roundtable participants exchanged views on the preparation of a new edition of the national program for raising the level of legal culture in the society, further improving the system of legal training and education, and enhancing the role of civil society institutions in this process.
“The shaping and raising the level of legal awareness and legal culture of the population is of relevance in each society,” said Kevin Curtin, professor of the School of Law, Boston College, head of the jury under the district attorney in Massachusetts, USA. “This issue is in the focus of attention at the level of state policy in Uzbekistan. In Uzbekistan, national policymakers are focused on this issue.”
