A festival of sports has taken place at the children’s and youth’s sports school no.44 in Tashkent occasioned to the International Women’s Day – March 8.

Around 1,500 schoolchildren of education institutions of Mirabad district took part in the event organized as part of the State Program “Year of the Health of the Child” by the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, the Tashkent city branch of the Fund for the Development of Children’s Sports, the Mirabad district hokimiyat and the district department for the methodological support and organization of the activities of public education institutions.

At the opening ceremony of the festival participants noted that the constant significance attached under the leadership of President Islam Karimov to the promotion of sports plays an important role in attracting the population, especially women, to the healthy lifestyle. The women going in for sports and boosting physical culture in the modern sports complexes built across the nation have been growing in number. Artistic gymnastics, gymnastrade, synchronized swimming.

The head of our state has been stressing in particular the necessity in the more extensive engagement of girls in sports and physical culture. To further this end, the work of mahallas and women’s committees ought to be bolstered, and we should constantly work with families.

These high objectives are served well by the regular competitions and sports festivals among girls.

The current festival also included contests in volleyball, basketball, artistic and sports gymnastics, ping pong, badminton, soccer, chess and checkers.

“I have been into sports gymnastics since I was five,” festival participant Omina Saidumarova says. “Sports help me grow healthy and achieve the goals set. I have been taking part in national championships and international tournaments. My aim is to uphold the honor of our Motherland with dignity at the international sporting arena.”

“Our team has been part to soccer competitions,” says Ziyoda Kasymjanova, pupil of the school no.213 in the district. “This festival is the practical demonstration of the wide opportunities being created for young people to go in for sports and physical culture. Constant attention is paid in our school to get girls fancy sports.”

A master class with renowned athlete women was organized as part of the festival. The prize winners of international competitions, winners and participants of the festival were awarded memorable gifts.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan – Chairperson of the Women’s Committee of the nation E.Basitkhanova delivered a speech at the festival.
