Historical visit that determined new prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation

As previously reported, on November 22-24, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid a state visit to the Republic of Korea at the invitation of President Moon Jae-in.

The state visit of the President of our country Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Korea was comprehensively fruitful. Issues of financing large investment projects, further intensification of cooperation in the spheres of economy, energy, finance, investments, high technologies, increasing the trade turnover, expansion of humanitarian ties, strengthening cooperation between ministries and departments were discussed at the negotiations.

Within the framework of the visit, over 60 documents worth more than 10 billion dollars were signed in trade-economic, investment, financial, technical and other spheres. Of these, 4,5 billion dollars are direct investment.

The reached agreements and the signed documents will serve the consistent development of strategic partnership between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea, further improving the welfare of our countries and people.

On November 24, the Head of our state received the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Chairman of the International Olympic Committee’s Ethics Commission Ban Ki-moon.

At the meeting, held in the spirit of sincerity and openness, the Head of our state recalled fruitful joint projects between Uzbekistan and the UN that were implemented during the period of activity of Ban Ki-moon as Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Ban Ki-moon highly appreciated the state visit of the President of our country Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Korea and noted that its results opened a new stage towards further development of cooperation of the two countries based on traditional friendship and mutual trust.

It was noted that the initiatives of Uzbekistan are of great importance for the transformation of Central Asia into a stable and economically developed region.

Ban Ki-moon expressed gratitude to Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his contribution to strengthening Uzbekistan – South Korea relations.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Chung Sye-kyun.

The Speaker, warmly welcoming the Head of our state, noted that strengthening relations of friendship and strategic partnership between South Korea and Uzbekistan play an important role in expanding the full-scale cooperation of our countries.

Important agreements were reached on development of inter-parliamentary cooperation, further expansion of contacts in this direction during the negotiations that were held on September 26, in Tashkent. Today’s meeting, which is the logical continuation of those negotiations, also took place in the spirit of mutual trust and sincerity.

The President of our country got acquainted with the activities of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Mayor’s Office of the capital of the Republic of Korea. The Mayor of Seoul Park Won-soon met the Head of our state.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev left a record in the Book of honored guests.

At the meeting it was emphasized that Uzbekistan and South Korea are firmly bound by traditional friendship, relations of mutually beneficial cooperation and strategic partnership.

Dozens of major projects with participation of leading banks and companies of South Korea have been implemented and continue to be realized in various sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan. Official Seoul has traditionally been a leading investment and technology partner in implementing priority programs on diversification and modernization of industry and infrastructure of our country.

The Head of our state, on July 3 of this year, received the Mayor of Seoul Park Won-soon in Tashkent. Issues of development of practical cooperation between the sister cities – Tashkent and Seoul, were discussed during the meeting.

At the current meeting, special attention was paid to the use of advanced experience of South Korea in the field of city management, development of the transport system, housing and communal services on the basis of modern technologies. The importance of active interaction in the spheres of urban planning, architecture and landscape design was noted.

The ceremony of awarding the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev the title of Honorary Citizen of Seoul was held. Speakers at the ceremony noted the dynamic development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea, that the state visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is of great importance for further strengthening friendly relations between the two countries.

The Head of our state proposed to name one of the streets of Tashkent in honor of Seoul as a sign of friendship between our people.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Lee Nak-yon.

In recent years, cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea has acquired a large scale. During the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to this country, agreements were reached on further cooperation in the fuel and energy, chemical, transport and transport-communications sectors, in mining, light and food, automotive industries, in the spheres of agriculture, trade, logistics, information technologies and telecommunications, medicine, tourism, science, education and culture.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Lee Nak-yon discussed issues of consistent implementation of the reached agreements, further improvement of joint activity on new projects.

At the meeting it was noted that the state visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will contribute to further development of cooperation between our countries, the consistent strengthening of relations of strategic partnership.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, accompanied by the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in, visited the National Museum of Korea, in Seoul.

The museum is one of the largest historical and cultural centers of the country. It is founded in 1945, began to operate in a new building with a unique architecture in 2005. The museum is the largest in Asia and the sixth in the world. Its collection contains more than 220 thousand historical, art, archaeological and other exhibits.

The President of our country got acquainted with the exhibits of the museum. An agreement was reached on further expansion of cultural and humanitarian relations between our countries.

Thereupon, the state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Korea ended. Due to high political and economic achievements, this visit will go down in history as an important event in relations between our countries and will raise bilateral cooperation to a new level.
