The Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications has held a meeting with the delegation of the Latvian company Hansa Telecom.
“During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the further prospects for the development of information and communication technologies in Uzbekistan. In particular, Hansa Telecom proposed to start partnership relations with the project on introduction of mobile number portability (MNP) in the republic as a promising area of cooperation,” the MDITC press service reported.
According to Hansa Telecom, the service would intensify the competition between mobile operators and provide an opportunity for subscribers to completely save their number, including the prefix when changing the mobile operator. The sides expressed interest in joint interaction on further consideration of opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.
Earlier, Uzbektelecom Director General Shuhrat Kadirov mentioned a possibility of abolishing the so-called ‘mobile slavery’ in Uzbekistan in the next few years. This implies the launch of a process, which would enable a subscriber of any cellular company in Uzbekistan to change it to another, and preserve his phone number at that.
This year, the number of mobile subscribers in Uzbekistan has exceeded 21.4 million people. More than 18,300 mobile stations were installed by April, 2017for the better coverage of mobile communications in the regions of the country. During the year the figure is expected to exceed 20,000.
