INTERNATIONAL JUDO TOURNAMENT STARTED IN TASHKENT

Tashkent hosts International Judo Tournament “Tashkent Grand Prix – 2016”.

In the tournament for the fourth time organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sport Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Olympic Committee, the Judo Federation of Uzbekistan, the International Judo Federation (IJF), together with a number of ministries and organizations, 135 judokas from nearly twenty countries compete for the victory in fourteen weight categories.
Taking into account the sporting potential, opportunities and rich experience of our country in the holding of the prestigious tournaments at the highest level, as well as the achievements of our judokas in the international arena, the International Judo Federation decided to hold tournaments of Grand Prix series in 2013-2016 years in Tashkent.

By the Judo Federation of Uzbekistan was carried out consistent work for the organization of the current year’s tournament Grand Prix at a high level, equipping the place of the tournament, in accordance with international standards.

The opening of the tournament was held at the sports complex “Uzbekistan” on October 6.

At the opening of the tournament it was stated that under the leadership of the First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, a harmonious upbringing of the young generation, the development of sports has become a national movement. In our country special attention is paid to further promotion of Olympic sports, training and full support for talented athletes capable to defend with dignity the honor of the Motherland.

Judo – an Olympic sport, which is actively developed in our country. Judokas of Uzbekistan regularly win and become the winner of the Olympic and Asian Games, world and continental championships, prestigious tournaments.

This is confirmed by the victories of our judokas Rishod Sobirov and Diyorbek Urozboev in recent XXXI Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The national team of our country successfully performed at the previously Grand Prix tournaments held in Tashkent. At the tournaments in 2013, our judokas won 5 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals and took first place in the team event. At the competitions in 2014 in the asset of our team were – 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals, in 2015 – one gold and one silver, four bronze medals.

This year, at the tournament, together with experienced athletes young judokas also defend the honor of our country.

On the first day of tournament, Muhriddin Tilovov rose to the highest step of the podium, Sharofiddin Lutfullaev took third place. Among women Diyora Keldiyorova won silver, Nodira Gulova, Mukaddas Kubeeva and Guloyim Djumaboeva – bronze medals.
