Khiva to hold fair of melons

Fair “Gurvak – a symbol of Khorezm melons” will kick off on August 6 at “Kuhna Ark” square of the State Museum “Ichan-kala” (Khiva district).

Since ancient times, Khorezm region has been famous for its gurvak melons, thus the fair also has this name.

The fair is held with a purpose to promote melon among foreign and domestic tourists, as one of the special gourds, as well as other fruits and berries of the Khorezm region: pumpkins, watermelons, apples, pears, peaches, grapes and dried fruits.

The fair will host a festival of folklore and ethnographic groups, contest of young pop singers, theatrical performances, as well as demonstration of folk craft products.
