LABOUR MINISTRY HOSTS UNDAF WORKING GROUP MEETING

The Ministry of labour of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting of the Working group of UNDAF (UN Development Assistance Framework for Uzbekistan) on social protection.

The meeting discussed the implementation of Joint Programs to further improve the wellbeing of people with disabilities for 2016-2020. Situational analysis, the preparatory phase of the Programme is underway currently. Specific activities to attract the best international expertise and resources in the areas of health, education, employment and social protection of children and adults with disabilities will be developed on the basis of situational analysis.

Co-chair of the Working group, Labour Minister A. Abduxakimov noted the special relevance of the welfare of people with disabilities within the project of the State program “Year of dialogue with people and human interests “. One of the priorities of the State program specified by the President, is the creation of equal opportunities for all citizens.

S. Graumann, the Head of UNICEF in Uzbekistan and Co-Chairman of the Working group, highlighted the need for the provision of early comprehensive assistance to children with developmental disabilities and their families in order to overcome or mitigate their disabilities and to allow children to achieve their full potential.

Dr. Mojtahedi, an international expert of the UN agencies on disability issues addressed a report on the methodology of the analysis. Following her visit results, she noted the development of an accessible environment for people with movement difficulties, putting that Uzbekistan can serve as an example for other countries in the region. The expert thanked the representatives of the ministries of labour, health, education and finance, Republican inspection of medico-social examination for their professionalism and support during the development of the methodology of situational analysis.

The meeting saw representatives of ministries and departments, public organizations of disabled persons, UNICEF, UNESCO, UNDP, WHO and UNFPA.
