On June 3, 2018, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by Minister of Foreign Affairs AbdulazizKamilov, who was on a working visit to Qatar, met with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammеd bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
The state and prospects of bilateral relations in political, trade-economic, investment, tourism, cultural and humanitarian spheres, interaction of the parties within the framework of international structures were discussed.
The foreign ministers confirmed mutual interest in developing Uzbekistan – Qatar cooperation, giving it a multifaceted nature. In this context, the sides noted the importance of activating contacts at various levels and formats, including regular inter-MFA political consultations, which will help to identify the most promising areas and focus on them.
During the exchange of views on international and regional issues, the sides paid special attention to issues of cooperation in implementing important initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on establishment of Imam Bukhari International Research Center in Samarkand, the Center for Islamic Civilization and the Islamic Academy in Tashkent.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the ministers also discussed the implementation of Tashkent Declaration adopted on March 27, 2018 at the international conference on peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, which was attended by the delegation of Qatar.
Other current issues were also considered at the meeting.
