Meeting with the EBRD delegation

On February 20, the Development Strategy Center hosted a meeting with members of the delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The event was organized within the framework of a visit to Uzbekistan of a delegation led by the managing director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for Central Asia and Russia Natalia Khanjenkova.

At the meeting with the executive director of the Development Strategy Center A.Burkhonov, the guests were informed about activities of the center, the course of socio-political and socio-economic reforms in Uzbekistan. The guests were told about the process of implementing the Action Strategy on five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021 in the Year of supporting active entrepreneurship, innovative ideas and technologies. It was emphasized that in cooperation with international organizations, a number of projects are being implemented on supporting small business and private entrepreneurship, liberalizing the banking and financial sector.

Natalia Khanjenkova highly appreciated the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, the projects on comprehensive development of the country. She noted that the policy pursued by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aimed at accelerated development, contributes to further enhancing the authority of Uzbekistan in the international community.

The decisions taken in Uzbekistan on liberalizing the economy, diversification of industries through a reduction in the state’s presence, strengthening protection of private property, development of small business and private entrepreneurship aroused great interest among the guests.

During the conversation, special attention was paid to cooperation on such issues as ensuring the rule of law, involving citizens in changes and reforms taking place in society.
