During the state visit, President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in visited the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis N.Ismailov, welcoming the distinguished guest with an arrival in Uzbekistan, noted that the state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on November 22-25, 2017 to the Republic of Korea opened a new page in relations between the two countries. During this visit, a joint statement on comprehensive deepening of strategic partnership was adopted.
More than 20 interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements, as well as more than 60 contracts and agreements worth 10 billion USD have been signed, which confirm the strong cooperation and trust between the two countries.
Inter-parliamentary cooperation also plays an important role in relations. Cooperation between the legislative authorities of the two countries has been ongoing since 1995. At that time, Korea – Uzbekistan Parliamentary Friendship Association was established in National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. Also since 2005, the Inter-parliamentary group for cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea has been operating in the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The distinguished guest noted that humanity is developing through cooperation and dialogue, and Uzbekistan has opportunities for cooperation between East and West. He noted that the history of science and modern technologies, such as ICT, medicine and astronomy, is directly related to Uzbekistan. Al Khwarizmi, Ibn Sina, Mirzo Ulugbek and others made an invaluable contribution to world civilization. It was especially noted that Mirzo Ulugbek’s star chart served as foundation for creation of calendar in the era of Joseon dynasty.
Relations are innovation and, of course, development. Uzbekistan’s history is a vivid proof of that. I believe that Korea’s relations with its old friend Uzbekistan will rise to a new level in the 21st century, and both countries will achieve prosperity, – says the distinguished guest. The highest indicator of trade turnover between the two countries amounted to 2.1 billion USD. More than 600 Korean companies operating in Uzbekistan indicates the expansion of cooperation.
