As part of the campaign “Reading starts with the family” being conducted by the Writers Union of Uzbekistan and the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, Sirojiddin Sayyid, the first deputy chairman of the Writers Union of Uzbekistan; and a poet and columnist, Khumoyun Akbarov; have handed over 300 books to the library of children’s home No 21 in the capital city’s Yunusobod District. These books of 40 titles were published by the Ijod public foundation under the Writers Union.
A Presidential decree dated 12 January 2017 “On establishing a commission for the popularization of reading and the raising of book-reading culture and for the development of the system of the publication and distribution of books” is an important factor in raising the intellectual potential of the younger generation and their book-reading culture, Hamida Ahmadjonova, deputy director of the children’s home, said.
“There are more than 6 thousand books in our library, and more books are being supplied to it constantly. We also have a club of book lovers here,” says Hamida Ahmadjonova.
At the event, pupils of the children’s home, read out excerpts from works of famous Uzbek poets.
The “Reading starts with the family” campaign will be conducted in all the towns and districts of the country. As part of the campaign, library collections will be supplied with new literature, and creative meetings will be held.
