On June 13, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Bishkek to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of State session.
Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev met the President of Uzbekistan at Manas International Airport.
The agenda of the SCO Council of Heads of State session contains issues of further developing and strengthening multilateral cooperation in priority areas, including in political, economic and security matters. Participants are also expected to exchange views on pressing issues of international and regional nature.
Bishkek Declaration is anticipated to be adopted following the summit meeting. It is planned to sign a package of documents aimed at expanding multidimensional partnership within the organization, including enlargement of ties among regions of member nations and cooperation in digitalization and information-communication technologies, environment, tourism, sports and other areas.
Uzbekistan actively takes part in all activities within the framework of the SCO. Together with member states, it forwards important proposals and initiatives for development of multifaceted cooperation.
Achieving the main goals of the organization is inextricably linked to security and stability in Central Asia. International analysts note that in recent years Uzbekistan has taken a special place in formation of a new political environment in the region. At the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in a short time, acute problems of the region began to be resolved, including issues related to definition of borders, trade, transport and water use.
Important initiatives forwarded by the Head of the state at the SCO summits in Astana (2017) and Qingdao (2018) are being implemented. In particular, the Joint Appeal by the Heads of State of the SCO to Youth was adopted in Qingdao, in September last year Tashkent hosted the first meeting of the heads of the SCO member states’ railway administrations. Public Diplomacy Center of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was established in Tashkent by the resolution of the President of June 26, 2018. At the same time, “Silk Road” International University of Tourism has been established in Samarkand. In the second half of this year, it is planned to hold forums on information technologies and innovative development, start-up initiatives and projects with participation of youth organizations of participating countries.
Today Shavkat Mirziyoyev will hold bilateral meetings.
