President of Uzbekistan advocates intensification of cooperation with the Green Climate Fund

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Mafalda Duarte, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund, as part of his working visit to Baku.

The sides discussed issues of further strengthening cooperation in implementing joint projects and programs on adaptation to climate change and mitigation of its consequences.

The sides highly appreciated the support provided by the fund to the development of the potential of Uzbekistan’s specialized organizations and the elaboration of national adaptation plans.

Currently, the joint project portfolio amounts to $160 million and embraces such priority areas as water resources management, green energy development, green finance and a range of other sectors. In addition, two regional projects worth $5 billion and three national projects worth $500 million are being developed.

An agreement was reached on further building up the partnership, including by means of implementing programs on innovative greening and sustainable land management, improving the socio-ecological situation in the Aral Sea region.
