President of Uzbekistan receives heads of foreign delegations

On March 27, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, met with the Vice-President of the European Commission, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Khawaja Muhammad Asif, within the framework of Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan “Peace process, security cooperation and regional connectivity”. 

Receiving the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, the Head of the state noted with deep satisfaction the intensification of contacts at various levels, which demonstrates the mutual desire to develop and deepen the multifaceted partnership between Uzbekistan and the EU.

During the conversation, the sides discussed the prospects for cooperation on issues of promoting a peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan and sustainable development of the region, as well as expanding bilateral practical cooperation in trade, investment, innovation, education and culture. The importance of adopting a new EU Strategy for Central Asia next year was noted.

At the meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, the President of Uzbekistan emphasized the high dynamics of development and consistent strengthening of Uzbekistan – Russia strategic partnership and alliance.

It was noted that bilateral cooperation has recently been filled with concrete practical content. The volumes of mutual trade are growing, priority investment projects are being implemented, cooperation is strengthening at the level of business and regions. New programs of educational, scientific-technical and cultural-humanitarian exchanges are being implemented.

Issues of preparation for the forthcoming state visit of the President of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Uzbekistan in the autumn of this year were considered.

Actual aspects of international and regional policy were also discussed.

Welcoming the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the Head of the state noted the importance of full implementation of agreements reached during the high-level visit to Turkey in October last year, with the aim of further strengthening ties of friendship and strategic partnership.

Particular attention was paid to issues of preparation for the upcoming meetings at the highest level, first of all, saturating the agenda of negotiations with concrete projects and programs of mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, investment and high technologies, transport and tourism, culture and other areas.

The need for giving practical effect to bilateral relations was also discussed at the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

President of Uzbekistan emphasized the existence of a large unused potential in mutual trade, cooperation in the spheres of agricultural engineering, light industry and other sectors, development of transport communications, and increasing the flow of pilgrimage tourism to Uzbekistan.

An agreement was reached on further intensifying contacts, organizing mutual visits and joint events at various levels.

During the meetings, the heads of foreign delegations expressed full support for holding the Tashkent international high-level conference on Afghanistan, noting the timeliness of its organization and the current nature of issues on the agenda.

Confidence was expressed that the results of the forum would make an important contribution to the promotion of the process of peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan.

High assessment was given to the ongoing socio-political and socio-economic reforms at a new stage, as well as the active role of Uzbekistan in promoting constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation in the region.

Heads of foreign delegations conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on behalf of the leadership of the European Union, the leaders of Russia, Turkey and Pakistan, assuring the readiness of their countries to further strengthen the all-round partnership with the Republic of Uzbekistan.
