On April 26, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China Li Zhanshu.

The President of Uzbekistan emphasized that holding the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing and implementation of the initiatives of the PRC President Xi Jinping forwarded within its framework will promote international and regional cooperation, strengthen friendship, good neighborliness and mutual understanding in the vast region.
It was stressed that at the meeting with President Xi Jinping held yesterday, new prospects for cooperation, which will further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, were identified.
Li Zhanshu expressed his deep satisfaction with the highest-level relationship achieved. It was emphasized that in recent years, bilateral exchanges in trade, economic, investment, financial, cultural, humanitarian and many other areas have noticeably intensified.
Positive experience of cooperation is gained between the legislative bodies of Uzbekistan and China. Exchanges of parliamentary delegations have become regular, the partnership is consistently expanding.
Issues of strengthening parliamentary control over the implementation of the highest-level agreements were considered at the meeting. In addition, it was emphasized that the inter-parliamentary dialogue serves as an important factor in enriching bilateral cooperation with practical content and promoting new programs and projects.
Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress reaffirmed his readiness to make a real contribution to the implementation of the agreements adopted between the two countries and further development of a full-scale partnership.
He highly appreciated the socio-economic reforms implemented in Uzbekistan at the new stage, their real impact and effectiveness. According to him, in terms of the scale and goals, the policies and reforms of the President of Uzbekistan give every reason to compare him with the great Chinese reformer Deng Xiaoping.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on enhancing inter-parliamentary contacts and holding joint events to study in depth the experience in promoting effective reforms and transformations.
