The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held negotiations with the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, in Qingdao.
This was reported by the Press Service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that people of Uzbekistan are interested in establishing a stable peace in brotherly neighboring Afghanistan.
We are pleased that after the conference, held this year in Tashkent, worldwide active efforts began on ensuring peace in Afghanistan.
Everyone understands that the only way to achieve this is dialogue. This meeting is a good opportunity to exchange views on this issue, discuss important issues for our countries, said the President of Uzbekistan.
Ashraf Ghani noted the recently intensified political dialogue between the two countries.
I would like to especially note the rapid pace of implementation of the agreements reached within my visit to Uzbekistan. I express my deep gratitude on behalf of our people and government for that your country held a major event on Afghanistan. Your personal attention to this issue has created conditions for development of political decisions, said the President of Afghanistan.
Uzbekistan implements important economic and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan. Since 2002, electricity has been supplied to this country, the volumes of which will increase as a result of construction of a new power transmission line Surkhan – Puli Khumri.
Extension of Hayratan – Mazar-i-Sharif railway to Herat is among the prospective projects. This will become an important contribution to reconstruction of the Afghan economy, increase the transit potential of the country, create new jobs.
Humanitarian ties have also become more active. In January of this year, the Educational Center for Training Afghan Citizens began its work in Termez. Currently, about 100 Afghan students are studying in the center.
At the meeting, current issues of further development of political, trade-economic, transport-communication, cultural-humanitarian ties between the two countries, strengthening regional security were discussed.
