On November 28, Tashkent hosted an international roundtable discussion on “Public diplomacy: a strategic resource for promoting national interests”.
The event was organized by the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism jointly with the SCO Public Diplomacy Center in Uzbekistan and Regional Representative Office of Konrad Adenauer Foundation for Central Asia.
Issues of coordination of joint efforts in various areas, such as inter-parliamentary relations, regional and interethnic relations, youth organizations’ activities, cultural diplomacy, education and others were discussed at the event.
Participants focused on the role of parliamentary diplomacy as one of the important areas of public diplomacy. It was noted that the intensification of inter-parliamentary cooperation of countries takes into account each people’s interests, is an important component of interstate relations. Public diplomacy is also implemented within the framework of activities of national cultural centers and friendship societies aimed at strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between people. These public organizations’ efforts serve to establish good-neighborly relations between the people of the countries.
Following the event, participants agreed on the need for further strengthening and developing the institute of public diplomacy as an important factor in promoting national interests.
