These days, when the whole country is preparing for the main event of the year – the presidential election, our correspondent in Tehran asked the representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) with respect to their views on the election process in Uzbekistan.
Professor Iftihar Hussain Arif, president of ECO Cultural Institute:
– Parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan, which passed at the end of December, were open, transparency, impartiality, during which created all conditions for free voting of citizens.
I am convinced that the presidential elections will be held in conditions of transparency and democracy, and your people will vote for the most deserving candidate.
It should be noted that during the years of independence Uzbekistan’s economy has made significant progress and continues to develop dynamically. There are high rates of GDP growth of the republic, inflation does not exceed the projected level, create the most favorable investment opportunities, as well as implement various infrastructure projects.
On the eve of the big holiday of Navruz, which is one of the oldest festivals in the world, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the people of Uzbekistan with this bright and colorful celebration of spring.
Seyed Jalaledin Alavi Sabzevar, Deputy Secretary General of ECO:
– We are interested in the active participation of Uzbekistan in the ECO activities. In my opinion, parliamentary elections once again confirmed the success of large-scale reforms in the way of building a democratic state with a strong civil society.
I am confident that the upcoming presidential elections will be another big step in the process of further democratization of the country.
In conclusion I would like to sincerely congratulate the people of Uzbekistan with a wonderful holiday Navruz to express my deep respect and best wishes.
