SCO: a new stage of cooperation in media sphere

On June 1, 2018, the first media forum of the SCO member states has taken place in Beijing, China.

It was attended by members of delegations consisting of representatives of authorized agencies of information-communication sphere of China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as from observer countries – Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Mongolia, partner states – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Turkey, and leading mass media.

It should be noted that since the establishment of the SCO, mass media have supported organization’s efforts on development of cooperation in the spirit of mutual trust, interest, equality and diversity of cultures, in a word, on the basis of “Shanghai spirit” principles.

Director of the State Council Information Office of the PRC Jiang Jianguo, SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov and heads of delegations of the SCO member states delivered speeches at the forum on “New stage of media cooperation”. Participants were informed about the preparation process for the regular meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of States, which will be held next week in Qingdao.

Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China, member of Central Committee of the CPC, head of the Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of China Huang Kunming read the welcoming message of the President of China Xi Jinping to forum participants.

The forum continued its work at section meetings on “Creation of a new platform for media cooperation, jointly raising the development to a new level”, “Strengthening humanitarian ties, spiritual unity of nations”.

Relations between Uzbekistan and China are dynamically developing, strategic partnership is rising to a high level. Particularly, the state visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to China in May 2017 marked the beginning of a new stage of cooperation between the two countries, filled it with new quality and content.

Within the framework of the forum, authorized agencies of the SCO member states signed memorandums of cooperation in information sphere.
