Shavkat Mirziyoyev: It will be of invaluable significance the resolute and unanimous appeal of all interested external forces to the armed opposition

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan “Peace process, security cooperation, regional collaboration”.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev drew attention to the multifaceted and complex issues of settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, which are widely discussed at the regional and international levels.

The Kabul Process, Moscow Format, International Contact Group, Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process, the SCO – Afghanistan Contact Group and other multilateral platforms established to find ways of resolving the military-political crisis in Afghanistan deserve the most serious attention.

Uzbekistan supports the decisions taken by the participants of the second meeting within the framework of the Kabul Process in favor of launching direct talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban, “without preconditions and threats of violence”.

However, in our view, the main condition for moving towards peace is, first of all, the development and practical implementation of a single and coordinated at the regional and global levels, a broad program of peace for Afghanistan.

Proceeding from this, the main goals and tasks of our joint efforts should become:

the first – development of basic principles of peaceful settlement and attainment of a broad international consensus on them;

the second – development of a mechanism for launching negotiations between the Afghan government and the armed opposition;

the third – adoption of a “road map” on assisting by the international community to the process of national reconciliation in Afghanistan.

And finally, it will be of invaluable significance the resolute and unanimous appeal of all interested external forces to the armed opposition with a call to come to the negotiating table with the Afghan government and put an end to confrontation and violence.

There is no alternative to this. In our opinion, this is the key message of today’s meeting.
