Social Policy in Uzbekistan: Strength – in Interaction

Dialogue between the state and society, the consolidation of stakeholders, wide-scale cooperation at the national and international levels are the basis for achieving the growth of the effectiveness of the cardinal reforms implemented in Uzbekistan.

This is the leitmotif of the speeches of domestic and international experts, representatives of state and public structures, trade unions and other institutions of civil society at the international conference “Strategy of Action and Strong Social Policy: International Practice and Experience of Uzbekistan”, initiated by the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan.

The conference in Tashkent is devoted to acquaintance of its participants with the role and significance of the Strategy of Action for the five priority development directions of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021, which marked a qualitatively new approach to the system of strategic planning of the prospects for state and public development of the country.

Representatives of authoritative international organizations, trade union centers, employers’ organizations and experts from more than 30 countries, as well as ministries and departments, scientific institutions and civil society institutions of the republic take part in the conference.

At the conference participants noted that under the leadership of the President, consistent measures are being taken to ensure the interests of the individual, targeted social protection of the population.

Firstly, it is carrying out a strong and targeted social policy together with all interested partners. Secondly, the further strengthening of cooperation with neighboring countries, the search for solutions to all the problematic aspects of cooperation without exception, on the basis of mutual respect and consideration for each other’s interests. And, thirdly, an open, mutually beneficial and constructive policy with the countries of near and far abroad, the entire world community.

The plenary session of the international forum was devoted to the role of the state in organizing strong social protection of the population. Speakers from key ministries and departments of the country, as well as international organizations, emphasized that Uzbekistan is implementing comprehensive reforms in all areas of the country’s life. Under the direct leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a consistent, purposeful work is carried out to improve state and public construction, to fundamental changes in the economic and social fields, in the sphere of labor and social protection.

It was stressed that the Strategy of Action, initiated and developed by the head of our state in five priority directions of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021, is the doctrine of transition of Uzbekistan to a qualitatively new model of economic and social development. It reflects the three fundamental UN calls – peace and security, sustainable development and human rights.

Based on these priorities, the activities of central, regional and local authorities, law enforcement agencies and the judiciary are radically transformed. An increasingly uncompromising struggle against corruption and other negative phenomena is gaining momentum. The activities of civil society institutions and the media are becoming increasingly free and open, the economy and the social sphere are actively liberalizing.

At the international forum, where the current domestic and foreign policies of Uzbekistan were discussed, the word “for the first time” sounded more than once.

For the first time in the past 25 years, territorial, water and other disputes with neighboring states have been found worthy of resolution, which lasted for many years.
