A roundtable conversation has been held by the Agrarian and Water Management Issues Committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the subject of “the 25th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence: results achieved in the agricultural sector are a factor in steady development”.

The roundtable conversation was attended by members of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, deputies of the Legislative Chamber, specialists of the Agriculture and Water Management Ministry, the Economy Ministry, the Finance Ministry, the Health Ministry, the State Committee for the Protection of Nature, the farmers council of Uzbekistan, the main directorates for forest and veterinary issues, the Ozbekoziqovqatholding company and mass media representatives.

The deputy speaker of the lower chamber of Oliy Majlis, S.Turdiyev; the chairman of the agrarian and water management issues committee, T.Eshnazarov; and others have said that under the leadership of the country’s President Islam Karimov, new economic relations were established in the agricultural sector and big possibilities were created for farmers and that thanks to this agricultural productivity is rising.

Deep systemic reforms have been carried out in the agricultural sector in the years of independence. Areas under crops were optimized, and work was initiated on the storage and processing of fruits and vegetables.

It was noted at the gathering that as a result of special attention being paid to the sowing of high quality, early ripening and productive sorts of crops, high agricultural productivity had been achieved. Scientific research being conducted by scientists and specialists in this area, the creation of new sorts and work on adapting them to the local weather conditions are giving great results.

It was emphasized at the roundtable conversation that the I International Fruit and Vegetable Fair held recently in the country’s capital city served to analyze world food market areas and development prospects, to conduct talks between the country’s entrepreneurs and foreign partners, to exchange experiences, to discuss prospects for cooperation and sign agreements, to attract foreign investment and to further raise Uzbekistan’s export potential.

There was discussion at the gathering about consistently developing the country’s agricultural sector, improving the quality of laws being drawn up on this area and mechanisms for putting into practice laws that had been adopted.
