TAKEN MEASURES TO COUNTER CORRUPTION IN UZBEKISTAN ON THE PAGES OF RUSSIAN MEDIA

In Uzbekistan, extensive endeavors has been conducted on strengthening government accountability, transparency, and accountability, liberalization of economic relations, further strengthening the confidence of our people in state institutions. The signing by the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Law “On Combating Corruption” was an important step in this direction.

This event attracted the attention of Russian media, including news agencies and portals of RIA Novosti, Rambler, Russia Today, Vista News, «Economics today», «Vladtaym.ru”.

The articles note that the document was initiated by the head of state in October 2016, subsequently has been endorsed by the Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.

“This legal act detailing the concept of “corruption”, “corruption offense”, “anti-corruption”, “conflict of interest”, regulates the basic principles and directions of the state policy on the fight against corruption, participation of self-government bodies and other institutions of civil society, mass media and individuals in this process, as well as international cooperation in this field”.

Russian media also inform readers about the creation of the Republican interdepartmental commission on combating corruption in our country which will include entrepreneurs, representatives of public associations and other civil society institutions.

It is emphasized that the law provides liability for the persecution of persons providing information on corruption offenses.

In addition, it is reported that in 2008 Uzbekistan joined to the UN Convention against Corruption, and in 2010 – the Istanbul Plan of Action Network for Combating Corruption of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. In general, in the publications there were given a positive assessment on the measures taken in the country to improve the legal mechanisms to counter corruption.
