Tashkent hosts Uzbekistan – Tajikistan International Scientific and Practical Conference

On June 1, the International Institute for Central Asia, together with the Strategic Research Center under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, held an International Scientific and Practical Conference on “The role of strategic partnership between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in ensuring sustainable development in Central Asia”.

The event took place on the eve of the official visit of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to Uzbekistan.

The Director of the International Institute for Central Asia Anvar Nasirov opened the conference.

The main goal of the conference was to exchange views on the current issues of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, develop practical proposals for further deepening ties between the two countries in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Mr. Nasirov stated that the time itself demonstrates the relevance and significance of today’s event, when, thanks to the firm political will and joint efforts of the leaders of the two countries Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emomali Rahmon, the centuries-old friendship and good neighborliness, strategic partnership and multifaceted interaction achieved unprecedented progress in all areas.

The experts of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan agreed that the official visit of the President of Tajikistan to Uzbekistan and the high-level talks will further deepen the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. At the same time, it was emphasized that the increase in cooperation directly affects the daily life of citizens of the two countries, contributes to sustainable development, and increases living standards.

Following the event, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the International Institute for Central Asia and the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan. The document provides for joint research, organization of conferences, roundtable discussions and other events.
